Primary 2 Week in Review – Health Week

It’s been a busy week this Health Week! We’ve been looking at different ways to be ‘healthy’ and we still have lots we can do from the work we started this week.

We continued to think about our Living Things work throughout this week as we have been out and about, and the children are looking forward to their turn to feed our fish!

We also explored we double the consonant when adding ‘ing‘ to a verb – such as how ‘sit’ turns to ‘sitting‘ before moving on to more of our Health week work.

Health Week Activities!

We had socially distanced Wake up! Shake up! with Primary 7 in the playground most morning this week! We also worked in House Cup teams to earn points at different activities for a mini Sports Day – we look forward to seeing how we helped out!

We shared what we are grateful for this week as part of Health Week too, here are some of our many shared thoughts:

We had a visitor from the Crags lead us in some tennis skills in the hall during the week too where we put our throwing and passing skills to good work!

We got out and about this week to both Johnstone Terrace Garden and to the Duck Pond this week. These were good, long walks and a real chance to explore our local areas and wildlife.

Smoothie and Sunscreen Backpack competitions

We had a go at creating a poster for our own smoothies! We thought about what we would like to put in to our smoothie and some very keen boys and girls already had a chance to make their smoothie at home! Thomas and Eliska share their photos of their smoothie work with us here!

We also had a look at sunscreen for keeping our skin healthy and safe as the weather starts to turn warm and hot. We designed our own Sun Safety backpacks and included what we would pack in them. Noah also brought in a sun hat and sunscreen!

Last but not least, Primary 2 voted to have Golden Time outside this week, what a great way to end the week!

We hope you all have a lovely weekend and we shall see you next week!

Assembly 27th May 2021

I hope that you are all enjoying Health Week! I know the weather has been a bit miserable but that has certainly not dampened our spirits as everyone has been enjoying a whole range of activities to support our physical and mental health and wellbeing!

It has been great fun watching the Buddies in Primary 5, 6 and 7 Wake Up! Shake Up! with the nursery and younger classes. There have been some energetic daily miles, some relaxing yoga, mindful colouring and concocting of healthy smoothies! I believe the next focus is sleeping! I am pretty good at napping (so is my cat) so this could be my forte!

I hope you enjoy this week’s assembly https://youtu.be/QZ0KbMlo_08 Take care and keep healthy!

Primary 2 Week in Review

In our Literacy, we have started to look at what happens to verbs when we add ‘ing‘ to them. There are several rules but this week we looked more at those words where there is no change to the verb when we add on ‘ing.’ We had a go at looking at the patterns with this game: https://www.spellzone.com/word_lists/games-380192.htm

In our Money work we continue to work on making amounts of money and working out change. We made mini wallets and have been tracking what we have been spending from an ‘allowance’ this week. You may enjoy this game about change: https://natwest.mymoneysense.com/students/students-5-8/the-change-game/

In our Living Things topic this week we continued to look at features of living things in our art work and experimented with different materials to create reptiles, fish and amphibians.

We have also started to grow seeds in the classroom in preparation for planting in our planter. These have already started to sprout! The class are keen to help feed the school fish too and we will continue to look at looking after living things in our topic work.

Lastly, as part of Mrs Jessop’s competition we have started working on a class Worry Monster! Here’s where we are so far with our builders almost finished making our monster. We also had a go at designing our own Worry Monsters!

Next week is Health Week! We look forward to seeing you from Tuesday next week! Have a lovely long weekend!

Assembly 20th May

Hello. It’s been a busy week – our planters are now filled with soil and classes are starting off seeds on the windowsills for a colourful welcome next session.

Our Vice House Captains had the lovely job of thanking the Dumbiedykes Residents’ Association for a kind donation as they closed their accounts for the last time. We are going to put it towarsd our ‘greening’ project.

Sadly our House Captains have had a less pleasant job checking the upper school loos after a spate of vandalism and careless behaviour led to inconvenience and a repair bill. Please can we all work together to look after our school and each other.

We found out that Mrs Henry will be joining Royal Mile as Head Teacher next session And we had yummy fruit for snack on Friday thanks to the Parent Council. We have the same again this Friday too!

So here it is – Assembly! https://youtu.be/boSTGroUuYw

Take care, Mrs Jessop!
