Primary 2 Week in Review

In our Literacy, we have started to look at what happens to verbs when we add ‘ing‘ to them. There are several rules but this week we looked more at those words where there is no change to the verb when we add on ‘ing.’ We had a go at looking at the patterns with this game: https://www.spellzone.com/word_lists/games-380192.htm

In our Money work we continue to work on making amounts of money and working out change. We made mini wallets and have been tracking what we have been spending from an ‘allowance’ this week. You may enjoy this game about change: https://natwest.mymoneysense.com/students/students-5-8/the-change-game/

In our Living Things topic this week we continued to look at features of living things in our art work and experimented with different materials to create reptiles, fish and amphibians.

We have also started to grow seeds in the classroom in preparation for planting in our planter. These have already started to sprout! The class are keen to help feed the school fish too and we will continue to look at looking after living things in our topic work.

Lastly, as part of Mrs Jessop’s competition we have started working on a class Worry Monster! Here’s where we are so far with our builders almost finished making our monster. We also had a go at designing our own Worry Monsters!

Next week is Health Week! We look forward to seeing you from Tuesday next week! Have a lovely long weekend!

Assembly 20th May

Hello. It’s been a busy week – our planters are now filled with soil and classes are starting off seeds on the windowsills for a colourful welcome next session.

Our Vice House Captains had the lovely job of thanking the Dumbiedykes Residents’ Association for a kind donation as they closed their accounts for the last time. We are going to put it towarsd our ‘greening’ project.

Sadly our House Captains have had a less pleasant job checking the upper school loos after a spate of vandalism and careless behaviour led to inconvenience and a repair bill. Please can we all work together to look after our school and each other.

We found out that Mrs Henry will be joining Royal Mile as Head Teacher next session And we had yummy fruit for snack on Friday thanks to the Parent Council. We have the same again this Friday too!

So here it is – Assembly! https://youtu.be/boSTGroUuYw

Take care, Mrs Jessop!

Primary 2 Week in Review

Welcome back to our Weekly Review in Primary 2, we hope those of you celebrating Eid have had a lovely few days!

Maths and Literacy

We continue to explores how we use money by making amounts using exact coins and we have started to explore giving change. We have been running a shop in class to have a go at being a shopkeeper and shoppers to work out our change. https://www.ictgames.com/mobilePage/payForIt/index.html is a game you might be able to play to practise giving exact amounts or working out change.

In Literacy, we have been looking at the ‘soft g’ pattern dge. We continue to work on our sounds and tricky words work and we really spent some time practising our handwriting and those descender letters that go below the line such as ‘g’ which are tricky! We enjoyed some of the free games on spellzone for our pattern: https://www.spellzone.com/word_lists/games-71.htm

Science

We went out to explore for some plants, insects and other living things in our local area this week. We also collected some fallen foliage for our Living Things topic art. This time we were thinking about plants and insects.

We explored sound and pitch with some Generation Science work this week! We made ‘seagull squawkers’ and ‘squirrel shakers’ to explore the sounds they make as well as develop our understanding of pitch and how vibrations make sounds.

Have a lovely weekend and remember to have fun! We look forward to seeing you next week.

Assembly 13th May 2021

This week is Mental Health Awareness Week and the theme is Nature.

You may have noticed that our Parent Council have been busy weeding and tidying our planters at the back of the school. Mr Jessop and Mr Mouat, the Janitor, have also started work on our new planters ready for every class to plant out seeds for next session. In addition Mrs Dimeck has been doing outdoor learning with classes across the school, classes have been outside for PE and fitness, bikeability and fun! Last week Primary 2 were the proud winners of a play session with our new blocks – who will it be this week?

Our Equalities Group are challenging each class to design and build their own Worry Monster. There are lots of boxes and cardboard outside my office for this purpose. I am looking forward to seeing the results. These will be checked regularly and we will offer every support we can.

I hope you enjoy this week’s assembly https://youtu.be/4Nr4mxcV_yo

I’d also like to wish Eid Mubarak to all our families celebrating this week. Take care!
