Primary 2 Week in Review

Hello all! A brief update this week due to the short week!

We took some time to look at where we use capital letters in our writing aside from the start and end of sentences! We created some passports for ourselves to use capital letters with ‘proper nouns’ and specifically the names of places and months!

We are continuing to work with money and ways to make specific amounts. We are thinking of other ways to make up things like fifty pence and trying to remember that we need to use only coins to do this.

We continue our Living Things work by thinking of features of living things (such as movement, growth and needing to breathe) as well as how we categorise them. We had a go a making some birds and mammals using feathers and felt to try and show these different types of living things.

Lastly we braved the playground to see what living things we could find, especially plants. We did find a few insects in our searching and had a good look at the flowers outside the east door before we went home!

Last but not least, the office ladies have been so impressed with Primary 2 this week that we earned a shot at the blocks!

Assembly 6th May

I hope you like this week’s assembly. You might notice my friend here, the Edinburgh Bear. He is a friendly chap. We’ll be sending out more information about the move from nursery to school and our Primary 5 buddies will be busy too!

Please remember that children should come to school with a jacket, as the last few days have shown – here in Scotland we certainly get all four seasons in one day! Take care, Mrs Jessop https://youtu.be/If1-Ncts3e4

Primary 2 Week in Review and Termly Descriptor

Please find linked below the Termly Descriptor for Primary 2.

This is the plan for learning to the end of June in Primary 2.
If you have any questions, as ever, please don’t hesitate to send an email to the admin account for the attention of Mrs Aylward

Literacy

We are looking at ‘soft g’ this week, where ‘g‘ makes the ‘j‘ sound! The free games on this site show off the difference between the ‘hard’ and ‘soft’ g we have been practising.

Maths

We were looking at paying the correct amount of money with coins this week, making sure we were confident we could identify all our coins! We did some coin rubbings and some coin rubbing art to help us become more confident at recognising the different coins we can use here in the UK.

Art and Topic

We looked at the art technique of pointillism this week and practised the technique before making some pictures of our own inspired by the work of George Seurat.

We have also started to look at what living things are, thinking about things that are alive, that used to be alive and never lived. We worked to categorise different ‘things’ into these three categories and are thinking about what makes something ‘alive’.

Last but not least, we were sharing things about Space we were interested in! Well done to everyone for sharing!
