Monday 2nd November

Happy November everyone! Last week was a 4 day week and Friday was our Halloween Party Day!

Time

Our new maths topic is time. This week we have looked at:

  • Day and night
  • Yesterday, today and tomorrow
  • How the time effects what we eat: Breakfast, lunch and dinner.

We have been using some of our resources in our P.E lessons

  • Doing a different warm up activity each time we turn the sand timer over
  • Timing how long it takes us to run to the wall and back
  • Counting how many times we can throw and catch the ball in 30 seconds
  • We finished off by playing the game What’s the time Mr Wolf πŸ•’πŸΊ

In our painting area some children chose to have a go at painting an analogue clock face

CVC words

We have been making and reading lots of words this week using magnetic letters, white boards and pencils

Halloween Party Day

  • After looking at a few designs, we each created our own pumpkin decorations [planning, fine motor skills]
  • We played Toss the hoop on the witches hat [gross motor skills]
  • We played Pin the tail on the cat [gross motor skills]
  • We played Musical Statues [listening skills, gross motor skills, dance, big deal/little deal]
  • We had lots of yummy treats thanks to the Parent Council!

Black History Month

This week we learnt about a woman named Rosa Parks. We think she was really cool because she helped to change a law which meant that if you had dark skin you had to sit at the back of the bus. We each drew ourselves on the bus wherever we wanted to sit!

Homework

P1 read at school on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. On Thursday, they take their reading folders home to read with you and to complete their homework sheet over the weekend. The reading folder with record, book and completed homework sheet must be returned to school on Monday or Tuesday at the latest so the books can be quarantined.

There is space in the reading record to tick βœ“ that they have read, and space to write a comment. You can write any questions you have, any news that you think may effect your child (unwell relative, period of bad dreams or reason they were unable to complete the homework tasks) or simply a happy comment.

Remember to check the tasks set for you in the homework area!

Friday 16th October

Happy Holidays Primary 1!

I hope you all have a lovely half term and I look forward to seeing you on Tuesday 27th October. Just before the weekend starts, let’s have a look at some lovely moments from this week.

Outdoor Learning

Ooooh it was a soggy one! We had been so lucky with the weather but sadly not on this day. We made a rainbow with red, orange, yellow and green leaves, waved to the friendly police officers and used the trees to protect us when the rain was heavy 🌈🍁🌧

It was our last session with Mr Reid so to say thank you we made him this card of us sitting on our favourite log! After the holidays we will have Mr Segal once a fortnight.

We are all unique!

Our finger prints are unique. No one else in the whole world has the same fingerprints as you! We learnt how to reproduce our fingerprints using a writing pencil and sellotape. We then used a magnifying glass to look closely to see if we could see any patterns.

We finished our display by adding our photos with speech bubbles saying what makes each of us special. Some of us can write in chinese, some of us can skip, some of us are brilliant at drawing monsters! We are ALL amazing β™₯️

The Alphabet

This week our literacy tasks have been focussed around letter formation and CVC word writing. To help with this we have been using our magnetic boards. Each board has the alphabet on it and it is important that once you have used a letter, you put it back where it belongs on the rainbow.
Can you have a go at singing and writing the alphabet at home?

Busy Bee Learning

A team of pupils worked together to make this amazing castle with 3D shapes, adding in the little Stacking cubes around it. We learn so much from each other!

It’s getting colder and wetter as the year goes on. Make sure you are a super speedy zipper hero!

Warm wishes, Miss Copeland

Snack – Just 1 healthy item Please!!

At the moment, pupils are eating their snack after play time in the classroom. In previous years, pupils would eat their snack outside during morning break-time. This keeps our classrooms tidy. Break-time lasts 15 minutes and we want most of this time to be playing, rather than eating.

To help your child prepare for this return, please can you make sure your child has one item for snack that they would be able to carry outside with them. This should ideally be one an item of fruit and something they can eat quickly. Thank you! πŸ˜Š
