This week’s V.E. Day Anniversary

I am sure many of you have been trying out some of the activities on the grids shared this week.

This site from the Royal British Legion has lots of information about the events leading up to V.E Day and the national and international events planned to mark the 75th anniversary. I especially like how they remind us that working together and helping each other then made all the difference, and that by doing this now we can beat the coronavirus and stay safe.

Edinburgh Evening News have also been in touch to say that they are publishing a series of articles about VE Day this week.

We would love to hear about and see what you try this week, so please remember that you can comment on blogs, send us an email to admin@royalmile.edin.sch.uk or Twitter!!

Can I also pass on my good wishes to families observing Ramadan during this month.

Take care, stay safe and be kind to each other. – – – .-. …/ .- – – . … … .- – .

Everyday we are learning!

Hello! I hope that you are all well.

From next week you will notice a change in our Learning Grids. Before we were sending out grids for each level: early, first and second. From next week you will see each class will have a grid of their own.

Please don’t worry about trying to finish every single activity on the grid. Just look here at all the things you and your family do every day that can count as learning!! Even better, you can send us a picture and share your learning with us! Now mums and dads look at all the helpful things that you can support your child to do – like cleaning- because it is part of home school!!!

Take care, stay well and look after each other, Mrs Jessop

A couple of days….

Hello, I hope that you are all keeping well. It has been great to see so many people emailing in their pictures. We love seeing what you have been doing and admiring your work!

Just a little reminder that MONDAY 4th MAY is an In Service Day. The Royal Mile Staff will be spending this time virtually working together planning, reviewing and getting ready for this term and next session – whatever that may look like!!!

Then on FRIDAY 8th MAY it is the bank holiday to commemorate V.E. (Victory in Europe) Day. I am sure lots of you have seen the amazing Captain – now Colonel Tom – on the news and read about his fundraising for our NHS heroes. He will be celebrating V.E Day and V.J Day on August 15th as he served in Burma. There will be some activities in the grid next week about this international day.

Please remember next week is a short week. We will only be responding to emails Tuesday to Thursday and the Learning Grids will be shorter to reflect this.

Take care, be kind and stay safe, Mrs Jessop

Summer Term 2020 at RMPS

Dear everyone,

I hope that you are well. I am missing all of you and we, the school staff team, are always thinking about you.

These certainly are unprecedented times and as we move forward into the final term of this academic year we are having to be inventive and creative in ways we never imagined!

The Royal Mile Staff have been amazing. We have followed some pretty sharp learning curves and done pretty well! I know you will join me in thanking our staff for the support they have been providing in person in the Hub schools and online in the Blogs and posts.

There are some really important life events coming up for our young people. Transitions from one year stage to the next for everyone. For our Primary 7 pupils that means moving on to High School and the move from nursery to primary school for younger children. We don’t know just now what that will look like but we are already planning and thinking about how we can make it as supportive and enjoyable as possible. These are important milestones and we will be marking them in some way. Something unique and special to Royal Mile just as every year!

We are also looking at reporting to you all at the end of session and what that will look like this year. We will be following the guidance of the Scottish Government, Education Scotland and City Of Edinburgh Council as we move forward with this.

It is very important that we all keep in touch and make sure we are able to be in contact. Please email and let us know if you change any of your details. If you are in touch with other families and they are not getting messages from us – maybe ask them to email us new addresses or telephone numbers to admin@royalmile.edin.sch.uk

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we all work together at this challenging time. Please take care, be kind to each other and stay safe and well.

Housepoints are back!!

I wanted to say thank you to everyone who sent me a joke – Julia in P4 sent me lots – and send one back to you!

‘My mum said I would never be able to make a car out of spaghetti! She was shocked when I drove PASTA! hahahahahaha

I have seen some fantastic pictures of arts and crafts people have been doing, and often using recycled materials like Anwen in P6. I have also enjoyed learning about orang-utan from Miss Brunner. In my garden just now we have a fox who visits and so I thought I would share this link to a story about Gaspard the Fox featuring Peter the Cat https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CR9Crv7DGbc and social distancing. This link shows you how to make a Gaspard of your own https://youtu.be/PyUNbIGAr4I.

HOUSEPOINTS!!

I have been so impressed that I think we need to start giving out VIRTUAL HOUSEPOINTS! This week i will be sending your teachers a list – I can only find the LAST CERTIFICATE you received so we’ll start from there. Your teachers will keep tally for you and – you can get your family to award you points for being SUPER AMAZING and helpful at home as well. We will send you certificates by email and you will hear us giving you a round of applause!!!

How Many Words Can You Make?

Like me you have probably been watching quite a bit of this – so now can you make words from the letters that spell television?

Let’s see who can make the most – you can email your list to admin@royalmile.edin.sch.uk. I am sure there will be housepoints……
