Home Learning Grid P7

Dear Primary 7,

Please find below the learning grid for this week. You will notice that it is shorter as this is a 3 day week. I hope you enjoy the activities and please let me know if there is anything you cannot access or need help with.

You can email me directly if your email is set up or contact me on TEAMS or if you have not yet been able to set it up, email: admin@royalmile.edin.sch.uk and it will be forwarded onto me.

As always, I would love to see examples of your work, which you can send to me in the ways above.

Have a lovely week.

Miss Kerr

Primary 7 Grid-week 5-1st week of May

Primary 7 Blog

Dear Primary 7

Dear Primary 7,

How are you all? I hope that you have had a good week. As you will have seen from the blog, we are in the process of setting you all up with an email account that you will take through to High school. I can’t describe how lovely it has been to hear from you throughout this week as you figure out how to set up your emails and access TEAMS.

I have uploaded some resources onto TEAMS (Fry’s words and spelling activities so far) which you can access if you click on the FILES tab, then the folder CLASS MATERIALS. I will also try to upload recordings of Chapter 14 and Chapter 15 of the Boy in the Striped Pyjamas for you to listen to. There are some questions at the end of the recording for you to think about next week. The reading task for next week’s grid also relates to the chapters, so please let me know if you are struggling to access the recording. Remember next week is technically a 3 day school week, so while I shall post the grid on Monday (there will be a special post on Tuesday related to V.E. Day with fun activities to try) I do not expect you to be working on Monday or Friday as these are you holidays.

As always, if you have any questions or anything to share, please do email it to: admin@royalmile.edin.sch.uk or email me directly if you have your own email up and running.

In other news, we decided to have a pizza making competition this week! I have attached photos and recipes for you to try at home. Copper is very happy, although he sometimes doesn’t understand why he can’t have attention all the time, so he makes sure he is in the middle of all my work! He also listened to the reading chapters and he agrees with Bruno, Lieutenant Kotler is really not very nice at all. (I know this because he whinges when I read his words, maybe it’s the scary voice I try to put on!)

Anyway lovelies, I hope you enjoy the recipes and pictures. I am looking forward to hearing from more of you and to keep hearing from those of you who have been in touch. Have a lovely weekend, look after yourselves and those in your home.

Take care!

Miss Kerr

Pizza ingredients

3 cups of Bread Flour (if you have it, plain flour should work too)

Dried yeast -1 packet (about 15g approximately)

Half teaspoon of salt

Half teaspoon of sugar

2 tablespoons of olive oil

Put the all the ingredients in a big bowl and mix with a spoon.

Get some room temperature water (you shouldn’t notice a temperature difference when you hold your finger in the water) and add 1 cup to start.

Slowly add the water (and more if you need it) and knead until all ingredients combine. If you are not sure what kneading means, follow the link below.

https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=knewading+pizza+dough+video&sourceid=ie7&rls=com.microsoft:en-GB:{referrer:source}&ie=UTF-8&oe=#kpvalbx=_Dg-sXvOsA4Wb1fAP9YmH2Ac25

The dough should be tacky to touch. (by tacky, I mean, it’s a bit sticky, like used Sellotape).

Cover the bowl with a tea towel and leave to proof (this is when the dough rises with the yeast) in a dark place for as long as you can wait! (at least 2-3 hours, or overnight if possible).

Preheat your oven to 200c. It should be fully heated before you put your pizza in.

Divide in two and roll out pizza dough.

Add your toppings, cook in oven at high temperature. Start with a timer of 8 minutes and keep checking it after that.

Suggestions for toppings:

Passata (heated slightly) works really nicely as a base if you spoon it on the rolled our dough and spread it out.

Mozzarella or grated cheese are good as the next layer

Then add whatever you like best, olives, sliced salami/chorizo, chicken the list goes on!

If you cannot find yeast in the shops, I found this recipe online which you could try:

https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/no-yeast-pizza-dough

Alternatively, big supermarkets like Tesco and Asda will sell ready made pizza dough if you are really stuck.

A couple of days….

Hello, I hope that you are all keeping well. It has been great to see so many people emailing in their pictures. We love seeing what you have been doing and admiring your work!

Just a little reminder that MONDAY 4th MAY is an In Service Day. The Royal Mile Staff will be spending this time virtually working together planning, reviewing and getting ready for this term and next session – whatever that may look like!!!

Then on FRIDAY 8th MAY it is the bank holiday to commemorate V.E. (Victory in Europe) Day. I am sure lots of you have seen the amazing Captain – now Colonel Tom – on the news and read about his fundraising for our NHS heroes. He will be celebrating V.E Day and V.J Day on August 15th as he served in Burma. There will be some activities in the grid next week about this international day.

Please remember next week is a short week. We will only be responding to emails Tuesday to Thursday and the Learning Grids will be shorter to reflect this.

Take care, be kind and stay safe, Mrs Jessop

Primary 7 Emails

Good morning Primary 7,

We are in the final stages of setting up your High School personal emails. With these, you can join a P7 class Microsoft Teams online, ask any questions about the home learning grids or online resources and prepare for High School transition.

In order for this to get up and running, there are several steps to be followed:

  1. Please read the P7 code of conduct below and email admin@royalmile.edin.sch.uk to confirm that you and your adult have read and agreed to the terms. Please also confirm that your adult is happy for you to use this to communicate with school.
  2. Once we have confirmation that you and your adult have read and agreed, we will send you the login details of your high school email address.
  3. I will send you an invite to join a Class Teams group.
  4. Please do not change your password or login details as remote resets (which means resetting information when not on a school server/in the school building) are not working just now.
  5. It is really important that you follow the rules outlined below and let us know if you are worried that others are not following the code of conduct.
