Primary 2 Homework 28th September

Maths Week remains P2’s homework focus this week. The ‘Shape’ Homework on Education City, under the Homework tab, is still available this week. Please attempt to complete at least any 2 of these by this Thursday if your haven’t already. A new Homework will be assigned next week.

You will find an additional piece of work going home this week, relating to Maths Week, which your child should be happy to talk to you about!
You will either have a ‘Roll, Add and Colour!’ game about 2D shapes. Using a dice, roll it twice, add the two numbers you get together and colour in the matching number on the sheet. The player who colours the most shapes in wins. We have been working with shape this week and naming the 2D shapes we know, can you name all the shapes on the sheet? Can you think of any other shapes? You may alternatively have a map of Edinburgh with places marked on it. Can you give directions to different places using directional language like ‘left’, ‘right’, ‘straight’ or ‘forwards’? Can you describe your route to each other or find different routes between places on the map?

Some extra keen children may bring you both the shape game and the map!
This work does not need to physically come back into class but your child should be able to talk about what you have done by Thursday this week.

Lastly, please re-read ‘Class Two at the Zoo‘ and ‘Who’s Our New Teacher‘ (on Active Learn) and think about which of the three assigned books is your favourite!

New homework ‘folders’ will go home next week. Please take care of these as if they are lost there is a replacement cost. They will have your child’s login information attached (which you should already have a copy of) and will contain any relevant homework for the week within. Further information will come next week as we ease back into this new system.

This Week in Primary 2 Review and P2’s Termly Descriptor

We had a short week this week and have started thinking about Maths week work! We are looking over shapes and we reviewed what we remembered of our 2D shapes and their names. We made pictures using 2D shapes by drawing around them and later by using these shapes to print in art. We have been hunting for shapes outside and inside and seeing what 2D shapes we can see in 3D objects as we are looking around.

As we prepare for Maths Week we were looking at some of the maths words we were using this week, including the names of shapes and words for directions. We listened to and followed directions from each other and from Mrs Aylward.

We also read ‘Aaaarrgghh Spider!‘ together, looking at the pictures and talking about the story. We then went on to have some people pretend to be one of the family in the book and answer questions from others in the class.

We had a go of drawing a map of a playground and compared our maps of our school’s playground to what was really there. We had a look at a simple map of Edinburgh and places to go on it and tried out giving a partner directions to different locations on the map.

Primary 2 wanted to share this Koo Koo Kanga Roo video!

Lastly, please find linked below the Termly Descriptor for Primary 2 in PDF and Word formats.

This is the plan for learning from September to December in Primary 2.
If you have any questions, as ever, please don’t hesitate to send an email to the admin account for the attention of Mrs Aylward.

Have a lovely weekend all!

Regards,
Mrs Aylward.

New rules

The Scottish Government have issued new rules to keep us safe and to prevent the spread of COVID-19. New rules can be confusing for us all.

Here is a visual representation of some of the new rules. They will help us all to understand them a bit better.

We will continue to check and follow local government advice.

Remember to clean your hands often and stay physically distanced from people who are not in your household.

Primary 2 Homework 22nd September

As this is both a short week and Maths Week, P2’s homework will focus on Maths tasks this week. There are some tasks on Education City, under the Homework tab. Please attempt to complete at least any 2 of these by this Thursday.
We have begun to review shape and the homework tasks are linked to this. If you have any issues accessing or completing the work please let me know.

You should also have ‘Aaaarrgghh Spider!‘ assigned on Active Learn to read and discuss with your child. We were starting to role play as different characters to answer questions as the character we chose while in class this afternoon.

We are still awaiting several homework folders to come back to begin to send the homework folders back and forth and we hope to begin this from next Monday, the 28th of September. Please do keep sending these back as you find them.
We are currently working with some whole class reading but in advance of group reading books, please sign up for a free account on Oxford Owls.

In general, please do check the blog on Mondays for homework information especially where we will be easing into homework and what this will involve. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact me via the school office.

Regards,
Mrs Aylward

This Week in P2

This week in our Maths we were looking at doubling and we got to practise with some Education City games on the iPads for a short spell. We enjoyed seeing the Doubles Rap video again and we worked well to identify, match and create our own doubles this week!

In Literacy we have been looking at sounds and some of our letter formation to ensure what we write is clear. We have been working to remember to use finger spaces between words too. In our sounds, we have been working to read words in our games with our target sounds of ou and ow this week. We started to look over some tricky words too!

In our social studies topic, Our Community, we continued to look at places in our local community. We thought about the places we saw on our walk and what they are used for. We also thought about places in our neighbourhood that we didn’t see on the walk but that we know about. We are continuing to look at why we might have certain places in our local area, what they are used for and if we have been there before or not at all. Using what we knew and remembered about all these sorts of places we have started to make a super collage of these places in our classroom!

Our learning power work continues in Health and Wellbeing and we have had a real think about what
Curiosity (“I wonder…”),
Creativity (“What if I do it this different way…?”),
Collaboration (“This will be easier if we do it together!”),
Resilience (“I can get better if I keep practising!”, “Maybe it can be my go next time…”),
Reflection (“I am proud of this thing I did because...”)
and Independence (“I can get on with this myself!“)
look like over the last few weeks. We have started our display on these powerful tools for our learning and we will continue to think about, build our understanding of and reflect on these as we move on through the year.

We continue to look at our Ball Skills in P.E. this week. We have enjoyed working on our passing skills with both our feet and our hands and Mr Reid was introducing us to some tennis skills too!

We continue to look at some dance-a-longs for while we are waiting to wash our hands and Primary 2 wanted to share this one for this week!

Next week is Maths Week, so please look forward to seeing what we are up to! Please do check the blog on Tuesday that week for homework as it will be our first week of any official homework!
