Information for Families

Scottish Child Payment is a new benefit being introduced by the Scottish Government to tackle child poverty. It is for low income families already in receipt of qualifying benefits. To start with, Scottish Child Payment will be available to families with children under six years of age only. We remain committed to rolling out this benefit to families with children under 16 years of age by the end of 2022.

Scottish Child Payment will open for applications in November 2020, with first payments being made from the end of February 2021. Low-income families with a child under six will be able to apply for £10 per child, per week – equivalent to £520 per year. There are no limits on the number of eligible children supported by Scottish Child Payment.

Social Security Scotland recognises that people communicate and engage in lots of different ways.

Random Acts Of Kindness

Our friends at Dumbiedykes and The Craigie are encouraging everyone to take care of themselves and each other by doing Random Acts Of Kindness.

We have been working together on our Be Resilient Module about kindness and revisiting the story ‘Have you filled a bucket today?’

Charise Barclay has sent us a link to a video ‘Science of Kindness’ that is helping to launch their October Calendar.

New rules

The Scottish Government have issued new rules to keep us safe and to prevent the spread of COVID-19. New rules can be confusing for us all.

Here is a visual representation of some of the new rules. They will help us all to understand them a bit better.

We will continue to check and follow local government advice.

Remember to clean your hands often and stay physically distanced from people who are not in your household.

Looking after our Health and Wellbeing in challenging Times

In all of our classrooms you can find displays that help us look after ourselves and others. They encourage us to be kind to ourselves and to others. They help us to be aware of how we are feeling and how others are feeling. They encourage us to find ways to regulate how we feel so we can talk about our own feelings and express them in a safe way.

Did you spot one of our SHANARRI Calamari in the pictures?

Look out on your child’s Class Blog for their displays and ask them about the different strategies and activities they are using to self regulate, maybe they can use them at home too.

Self regulation is tricky – even grown ups find it hard sometimes so we are very proud of our young people and how they are trying hard to use their words and find ways to help themselves deal with emotions!

Learning Heroes – are back!

There have been the sounds of swishing capes and rushing air all around the school as every class has shown off their ‘Learning Heroes’ displays!

In these first few weeks we have definitely been using our Resilience, Perseverance and Curiosity Heroes as we adjusted to life back at school in these new circumstances.

I think we should all feel super proud of our own superheroes – the staff, pupils and families of Royal Mile Primary School!
