Primary 2 Friday Review

It has been very busy in Primary 2 since we have started back!
On Friday we will be aiming to post our weekly highlights and share some of our work with you. Please enjoy our first highlights post!

We started by talking and thinking about emotions and what they feel and look like. We have started a Happiness Wall in school. We read both The Colour Monster (by Anna Llenas) and The Colour Monster goes to School in class.

Thinking about the story after we read it and remembering some of the colours for each emotion of the Colour Monster.

We have been looking at our newest Building Resilience unit – Be Kind. We thought about kind things to do, what was unkind and have started our own kindness tree.

We are growing our Kindness Tree by adding on acts of kindness we see or do!

We have also looked at superheroes and the types of powers they have. Superheroes Unite is a great song to act out to! It has been really popular and Primary 2 wanted to share it on this blog!

While we don’t have those kinds of super powers but we are thinking about our learning powers and how they help us.  We have started by looking at Curiosity this week and started to look at Resilience too. We thought about what we were curious about and what this might look like. We will be looking at Reflection, Creativity, Independence and Cooperation in the coming weeks.

Lastly we have started Our Community topic! We had a think about the world we live in, all the places and countries we could see and where we are in it. We narrowed ourselves down to Scotland and our city of Edinburgh. We have started to look at our city and the area around where we live and made some lovely silhouettes with cityscapes in our art. We are starting to look at the kinds of jobs people do, and what we want to do when we grow up.

Having a look at a collection of our cityscape art as we start to display our work!

Please look forward to seeing more next week! Education City logins have started to go home and Active Learn logins will start to go home next week. I will update the blog on Monday with regards to logins and how we plan to use them but feel free to check that you can log in and use/see content. If you have any issues to raise, information to pass on or questions about logins, please feel free to email admin@royalmile.edin.sch.uk with the subject “For Mrs Aylward.”

In the meantime, remember to have fun and have a lovely weekend!

Regards

Welcome back to LCC2

Hello and belated welcome back to the LCC2 blog. We have been busy getting back into the routines of school. On this blog we will be sharing our learning with you as well as posting some updates and ideas for home learning, so please do check this page regularly.

We have been trying to get outside for fresh air whenever we can. We have done outdoor spelling, outdoor maths (looking for 3D shapes in our environment) and we have also been out on the scooters and the bikes.

We have been getting back into the swing of being at school, working at our workstations, keeping all our individual resources neat and tidy…school is looking quite different. Assembly is online now too!

We have also found time to relax, play and be creative.

Primary 1 Blog

Monday 31st August

Lots of our friends were off school poorly last week ☹️ We have missed them lots, but we know that it is important for them and us to stay safe and keep washing those hands!

Every Monday, we write about our weekend. At the beginning of Primary 1, we are asked to remember what we did and then draw a picture. If we can, we can write some letters or words ourselves. When we draw a picture of ourselves, singing the rhyme Head, shoulders, knees and toes can help us to remember the parts of the body as we draw them 😊

This week, Miss Copeland asked us to either copy over a word, or copy the letters underneath, in addition to an adult writing what we say is in our picture. The key skill we are learning here is ‘why do we write?’, with the answer being so that we can read what has been written.

Khadijah and Eyad’s lovely work

This week in maths, along with our counting forwards and backwards, we have been practising our finger patterns to 5. We did this on our left and right hands. Some of us tried a trickier challenge of making the number behind our backs so we couldn’t count the fingers!

Theodora, Mariam and Bryce showing us the numbers; 1,2,3,4 and 5

Some of us then moved on to doubles. “If I put 2 on one hand, I put 2 on the other hand. 2 and 2 makes 4”. Doing this without looking by making bunny ears is super tricky!

Here’s a super cool song to learn at home!

The Colour Monster helped us to make pink this week! We made pink by mixing white and red paint together! In the book, pink means ‘love’. Some of us chose to paint heart shapes 💗

We also learned how to draw the Colour Monster! We had to watch, listen and copy the instructions. We practised two times before drawing our final version. Practising is very important. Practise makes progress. Here are our happy yellow Colour Monsters! If you want to have a go at home, click here for the instruction video!

Finally, we have been having lots of fun following the actions to Koo Koo Kanga Roo videos! Here is one of our favourites. Copying, learning and making up our own dance moves is great for our brains and motor skills 👍

Primary 2 welcome back!

A belated hello and welcome back to the blog! We have been busy settling back into school. We will be sharing our learning with you on this blog and posting some updates so please do check this page out regularly.

Here are some things you might want to know:

Names in clothes – Please make sure all items that your child wears has their name somewhere on it! This includes indoor shoes, hats/gloves and cardigans or jumpers.Their first name or initials in permanent marker/sharpie should be sufficient.

Indoor/outdoor shoes – Your child will keep a pair of ‘indoor shoes’ at school. They need to be able to change shoes by themselves.

PE Kits – At the moment, we are not changing clothes for PE but if you do not want your to do outdoor P.E. in their school clothes you can send in an outdoor P.E. kit (labelled joggers, trainers etc.) to leave in a bag on the back of their chair. We are aiming to have P.E. on Thursday and Fridays. Additionally, we will be doing a lot of outdoor learning so remember to bring a coat every day even if it looks like it is sunny.  We may well get muddy or a bit wet when we go outside as we like to explore so a warm change of clothes might be a good thing to pack too.

Snack – ‘snack’ is one item of food, ideally fruit, that will give energy but that can be eaten quickly. If your child brings their own packed lunch, you might want to have a chat about which one thing will be their snack. Likewise water bottles should come to school with water not juice in them. A juice drink can be had at lunch time but we can drink water during class time.

Homework homework is not due to start yet however we will be sending your child home with log-in information for Education City and Active Learn this week to begin to access and familiarise yourself with these platforms.

Do you have any questions or updates? – Is there something you want clarified, to update us on or have questions about? Due to social distancing, I can’t stay and chat outside so please pop these questions in an email…
