Second Level Home Learning for School Closure
Dear Primary 5, 6 and 7.
For the next two weeks, your learning will be in the format of a cross-curricular learning grid. The grid includes activities for learning in areas we are currently covering in class. You can work through these at your own pace and in an order of your choice. You can adapt activities to suit your confidence level and support available to you at home. Please try your best in these circumstances and we would love to see some good examples of learning so that we can share success on the blog.
On the Week 1 grid attached below for week beginning 23rd March, you will find details for the school admin email account. This is how you can contact us throughout school closures. We will all be available to continue to support you in your learning and answer any questions that you have. Additionally, we have turned on the comments feature on each of our class blogs. Please keep in touch!
You should have all received a pack of additional learning resources from school this week. If you were absent, we will try our hardest to get this to you. Learning activities in this pack are supplementary to your learning grid and there is no firm expectation that all of this will be completed. We appreciate that learning comes through many experiences. We are happy to support you in any way that we can in whatever way you choose to continue learning. In the near future, we will also be posting an additional list of ICT resources that can be used to extend learning at home. We hope that this helps.

School Closures and home learning
During the school closures we will be updating the class blogs regularly to guide learning at home. If you have any questions please do email: Admin@royalmile.edin.sch.uk
You should, hopefully, receive a home learning pack to assist in learning from home but we will be adding additional tasks here over the next few weeks.
There will be a School Closure Learning Grid for each stage (Early for P1, First for P2-4, Second for P5-7) published weekly on the blogs for you to work through over the course of a week, or more.
Here are some Active classroom activities that you may find useful (and are referenced in the School Closure Home Learning Grids).
You should have online log-ins and passwords for Active Learn and Education City. These are guides to help you log in:Â Active Learn – How to access and Education city – How to access if you didn’t receive. Please do email if you do not have the password information for your child.
Happy World Book Day 2020
We all celebrated World Book Day together on Thursday 5th March 2020.
We borrowed books from the Book Box.
We wrapped up our books so they couldn’t be judged by their cover and wrote a recommendation on the front so someone else could enjoy them.
The whole school participated in a book swap. We read the recommendations on the cover to help us decide on our new reading book.
We had an assembly with Mrs Jessop about the importance of bedtime stories. Then each of us had an exciting visit from a teacher in the school who read a bedtime story to us. We even had some delicious hot chocolate!
We are also all visiting Central Library Children’s library on George IV Bridge with our class. Some of us have been this week and some of us have visits planned over the next couple of weeks. We will be receiving our new library cards and taking part in an exciting session with the librarian.

Term 2 in Primary Six
Please find attached a link to Primary Six’s overview of what we will be learning this term. A reminder that with our time at the Craggs sport centre being over, PE will now take place on Thursdays and Fridays. Children are expected to have their PE kit with them on these days.
This term primary six will be continuing to share their learning, with a particular emphasis on articulating what they have learnt and how they know. To this end we now have a ‘Sharing Our Success’ wall in the classroom. Children are encouraged to place any work they are particularly proud of in their individual folder on the wall. Over the year your child should build up a record of work and learning that they are proud of. Please ask your child what is currently in their folder and what they were learning.
