Hello everyone! Yesterday P3 brought home the “Homework Bag” with the new activities for this week. Please remember:
* The Reading Books should be brought to school everyday. On the following Monday, the books will stay at school so we can change them by new ones for Tuesday. * I would like them to bring their completed homework back to school before or on the following Monday, so I can check it and give them a feedback.
**Try to remind them to bring their homework bags before Tuesday so they can get the new pack home. Thanks!
This week there are three pieces of homework: Reading – new book, and activities to practice vocabulary and/or develop their comprehension skills. Spelling – this weeks spelling homework is focused on practicing the Set 2 sounds, which we just finished. They can use the vocabulary learned during the lessons to complete the list of words. Then they can exercise their sentence composition by writing sentences using the words of their own list. Numeracy – they can develop the skills learned by completing the place value activities on this week’s Numeracy homework.
If you have any questions, or need an electronic copy of this week’s homework, please do not hesitate to contact me through the comments or by writing to the school email and they will forward it to me.
This week our Pupil of the week is Jameela. She is a Confiden Individual with self respect, able to achieve success in different areas of activity; and a Responsible Citizen with respect for others, and able to understand and participate on different cultural events. Well done! π
Literacy
This week during our RWI lessons, we revisited the sounds we have been working with so far, and introduced the sound “ouβ. We practiced our reading, spelling and writing of words with this sound, and of tricky words too. You can click on the sound to practice at home too!
As part of the World Book Day, we have had a lovely time reading a wide variety of stories along the week, and listening to a visitor in the class who read poetry for us (thank you!). We all enjoyed celebrating this special date by wearing a book character’s costume, pyjamas, and/or reading together some of their favourite stories. You can find some pictures below π
Numeracy
Following the lessons taught during the previous weeks, we have revisited the analogue clock, the minutes handβs function, the half past concept, and the use of digital clocks. They had a great time working of different task/stations, and did a fantastic job! π
We have also continued developing the concepts digits of a number and place value focusing on units, tens and hundreds. We have been working with blocks to find the place value of each digit in a number, decompose a number in tens and units, draw a blocks representation of numbers… They have tried their best in every lesson, great job!
Spanish
This week we learned about how people in Spain get part of their costumes ready: the antifaces de carnaval (carnival masks). We saw some examples, learned the steps to follow and created our own antifaces. They did a excellent colourful job! Then we celebrated Carnavales during Golden Time, played games, and dance to Spanish songs. You can find some pictures of them having a great time below π
Rights Respecting School
During this week, we discussed the importance of appreciating our differences, and being respectful with everyone, no matter their appearance, beliefs, skills… we all have the right to be loved and respected. They wrote three things they like about a classmate on a set of leaves, and each of them coloured a bird of their choice. We put all together and put it on a mural on the corridor next to the class. You can find the pictures of the result below, they’ve done an amazing job!
This Week’s Homework
**Please try to remind them to bring their homework bags before Tuesday so they can get the new pack home. Thanks!
This week there were three pieces of paper homework sent home on Tuesday: Reading – new book, and activities to practice vocabulary and/or develop their comprehension skills. Spelling – this week we are focusing on the sounds “ir” and “ou”. They can exercise their spelling and handwriting by completing the activities sent home, and also by choosing and completing three (or more) activities from the Spelling Activities sheet (complete at the back of the sheet or another paper). Numeracy – they can practice their time telling and pattern sequencing skills with this week’s Numeracy homework.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me through the comments or by writing to the school email and they will forward it to me.
World Book Day is on 3.3.22 and we have some special homework this week to celebrate.
Please select 1 or 2 activities from the grid below. Bring in submissions to your class teacher and send any photos of work (e.g baking/cooking) to admin@royalmileprimary.sch.uk
This week our Pupil of the week is Damian. He has shown he is a Successful Learner with enthusiasm and motivation for learning; and an Effective Contributor with resilience, able to solve problems. Well done! π
Literacy
This week during our RWI lessons, we have revisit the sounds we worked with during the first part of the term, and introduced the sound βirβ. We practiced our reading, spelling and writing of words with this sound, and of tricky words too. We have also been exercising our sentence composition skills, and our ability to retell a story and write about it. You can click on the sound to practice at home too!
Numeracy
Following the lessons taught during the previous weeks, we have revisited the analogue clock, the minutes handβs function, and the half past concept. We have continued learning about digital clocks, and how they link to what we know about clocks and telling the time. They had a good time playing games about telling the time π
During this week, we kept practicing number sequencing too. We talked about how we can find the rule followed by a number sequence, and learnt about how the “100 grid” can be a very useful tool for this and other Numeracy activities. We were counting on 10s using this tool, and completed a number maze.
We have also started (or continuing) developing the concepts digits of a number and place value focusing on units, tens and hundreds. They worked very hard to find the place value on numbers from 100 to 999, great job! We will continue developing this skill, and their knowledge of numbers from 0 to 1000.
Topic
During this week we focused our Topic lesson on the Great Wall of China. We learned about its location, length, how long it took to build it, who built it, and many other interesting facts about this World Wonder. They worked together and did a fantastic job “building” their own, and we added it to our Asia Topic display. You can find a picture below. Great job!
Spanish
This week we talked and learned about a how Carnavales (Carnival) is celebrated in Spain. We watched a video about the family’s parades in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, and we had fun learning a choreography with the song La vida es un carnaval.
Carnavales are celebrated on the 3rd of March this year, so next Thursday we will do a small Carnaval party in the classroom during Golden Time: will play games, play carnavales music… As I mentioned to them during the lesson, we will create antifaces de carnaval (carnival masks) for the party during our next week Spanish lesson.
Next Thursday 3rd of March we will have Pyjama’s Day at school as part of the World Book Day celebration. They can come to school wearing their pyjamas (over warm clothes) ready for a bedtime story time, or dressed as their favourite book character/author. We will remind them on Wednesday about it π
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me through the comments or by writing to the school email and they will forward it to me.
