P3 Week’s Review (9th June 2022)

This week our pupil of the week is Olivia. She has shown she is a Successful Learner with enthusiasm and motivation for learning, able to link and apply different kind of learning in new situations; and a Responsible Citizen with respect for others, able to make informed choices and decisions. Well done, Olivia! 🙂

Literacy

These weeks we have been revisiting the sounds we have learned along the year. We also explored the sound “ur” and different words with it. We have exercised our memory and listening skills trying to identify and remember words we learned with all the sounds, included the new one. During our RWI lessons, we exercised our letter formation, writing and reading skills, and our capacity of writing sentences which include more information and details.

We have also worked on our ability of reading and selecting specific information of non-fiction texts. They have done a fantastic job!

Numeracy

We revisited the previous week’s lessons, and we played some games to improve our ability to recognise some of the coins (1p, 2p, 5p, 10p, 20p), its value and use in the real life. We also started (or continued) developing our counting money skills of coins with the same value. We played a ‘toy shop’ game to in which we had to find out if we had enough money to buy the things we would like from the shop. They have worked very hard! 🙂

We have also worked on our ability to find different dates, days and months in a calendar; and discussed the differences between the months of the year. We will continue with this activity next week too.

Topic

During these two weeks we have answered many questions that we had when we started the topic, and we learned different facts about the ocean: why the water is salted, why are there volcanic islands, how are the underwater mountains called, what tides are, what waves are.

We have also learned about the features of interesting animals that live in the different oceans, and created a poster with what we have learned with a partner. They have done a wonderful work, you can see some examples below. Next week, each group will be the teacher and present their animal to the rest of the class.

Health and Well-being

BUILDING RESILIENCE:
During this term we are working with the ‘Respect yourself’ block of the plan. We have been discussing how we are all unique, and the things we do to make the world a bit better.

RSHP Education:
We have been talking about how we all have different families, and how the different members of our family take care of us. We also discussed our role in the family, and how we help at home. Then they did a great job drawing family portraits 🙂

Problem Solving

This week we revised Tangrams and used our knowledge of shapes. Can you tell what we made?

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me through the comments or by writing to the school email and they will forward it to me.

Have a lovely weekend!

P3 Week’s Review (27th May 2022)

This week’s Pupil of the Week Award is for Ali. He is a Confident Individual with self respect, able to live as independently as he can; and an Effective Contributor with resilience, able to take the initiative and lead.

Literacy

This week we have been working with two new sounds “nk” and “are”. We have practiced our listening and spelling skills by identifying and writing words with this sounds. We have also revisited sounds we worked with in the previous week, and played to think of words with the sounds we have learned along the year. During our RWI lessons, we exercised our letter formation skills and our writing, reading and sentence composition.

We have also been asked to do posters to inform everybody about the School Fair. The have worked hard on it, and put all their creativity to make them look festive. They did an amazing job 🙂

Numeracy

We have started with the Money block this week. We have been sharing our previous experiences and knowledge of the British Pound, coins/notes and its value (1p, 2p, 5p, 10p, 20p, 50p, £1, £2, £5, £10 and £20). We have been practicing our ability to recognise each of them and to order them by its value. The did a fantastic job!

We worked hard to keep developing our number bonds knowledge up to 100, and completed an activity adding 5, 10 and 20 to different amounts with help of the “100 square”. Skills that we will use in a near future to count money.

This week we also reviewed our knowledge of the months of the year, and their order. We started an activity to find out the months before and after the ones give; we will continue with it next week.

Topic

This week we been widening our knowledge about oceans and talked about the 5 different layers it presents. We tried our best to learn their names (some quite tricky) and discussed their features: temperature, pressure, sunlight, depth…

We have also learned about some of the interesting creatures that can live in each layer. They really enjoyed creating a layer’s poster in which they included important information about each of them, and draw some of the creatures. They did very good team work!

We have put together the cooperative map they were working on last week too, it looks great! You can find a picture below.

Spanish

During the last few weeks, we have been learning about the name of the parts of the body in Spanish. We have been playing games, dancing, singing and practicing our listening with actions games. We have also included what we have previously learned in the different activities we were doing. They have worked very hard! Muy bien hecho:)

Hello everyone! Yesterday P3 brought home the new activities for this week’s homework in their “Homework Bag” or in their back packs (if they did not bring the bag). Please remember:

* The Reading Books should be brought to school everyday. On the following Monday, the books will stay at school so we can change them by new ones for Tuesday.
* I would like them to bring their completed homework back to school before or on the following Monday, so I can check it and and use it as another source to identify areas in which they need support during the lessons.

**Try to remind them to bring their homework bags before Tuesday so they can get the new pack home. Please, check if there are books at home from previous weeks. Thanks!

This week there are three pieces of homework:
Reading – new book, and activities to practice vocabulary and/or develop their comprehension skills.

P3 Week’s Review (20th May 2022)

Last week Pupil of the Week Award was for Nyah. She is a Successful Learner with enthusiasm for learning, able to work independently and as part of a group; and a Responsible Citizen with respect for others, able to make informed choices and decisions. Well done! 🙂

This week’s Pupil of the Week Award is for Elishka. She is an Effective Contributor with resilience, able to work in partnership and in teams; and a Successful Learner with openness to new thinking and ideas, able to think creatively and independently. Well done! 🙂

Literacy

During the last couple of weeks, we have focused part of our lessons on gaining a deeper understanding of the split sounds “a-e” (as in name), “i-e” (as in nice) and “o-e” (as in home). We started working with the new sounds “u-e” and “aw“, we practiced our ability to identify words with these sounds, and reviewed the common features of words with the silent ‘e’. You can click on the new sounds and practice at home too!

We have exercised our letter formation skills and our writing, reading and sentence composition during the RWI small group sessions, and the Handwriting lessons. In this last ones, we have started using non-fiction text and discussing its features.

You can find an electronic copy of this term’s Plan for Literacy and other curricular areas at the bottom of this post.

Numeracy

We have continued developing our ability to figure out different fractions of small amounts with practical activities. We used fractions with small denominators (max. number 4), and discussed the fact that some fractions represent the same part of a group/shape (one half and two quarters).

We also practiced our ability to find number bonds within 20 and within 100; to order 2 digit numbers from greatest to smallest; and our number sequencing skills counting in 2s, 3s, 5s and 10s.

Besides, we focused one of our lessons on reviewing out knowledge of the months of the year’s name, order and facts through singing and playing “Quiz”. They did a great job working as part of a team, and had a great time! 🙂

Topic

We started our “Oceans and Seas” topic lessons by writing about the things we would like to learn linked to this theme. They all had great ideas! This week we have been learning about the Oceans: what an ocean is, how many are there around the world, how are they called and why, and where we can find each of them. During this lesson, we also worked together to create a map for our class display, which we will finish putting it together and placing it next week.

Health Week

Last week we celebrated Health Week, and had the opportunity to join many interesting and fun activities along the week that can help us take care of our to be physical and mental health.

We had fun playing basketball, practicing our foot skills, and playing other games at The Crags Leisure Centre and the school Gym Hall. We enjoyed listening to Stories, and developing our expressive skills at the school Library. We learned about Triathlon and experience some of the challenges of this sport. And we had a fantastic time during Sports Day at the Holyrood Park. Many thanks for joining us 🙂
