Well done to everyone who took part in the helmet design competition led by the Junior Road Safety Officers. We had an AMAZING 92 entries! Thanks for all the email entries and ones completed in school too. Julian and Alya have been taking the judging very seriously.
A massive congratulations to our very creative winners:
Sonny, Felix, Rayan, Arwa, Kimmie, Seth and Mairi.
We’ve included a selection of designs below for you to enjoy…
Primary 1 designed some wonderful helmets and you will see in the JRSO’s post soon who won the competition. Check out these road safe superstars with their snazzy helmets!
We used the instructions in the back of the book to draw Brenda and her sheep friends!
This is a Dog by Ross Collins
The dog in This is a Dog will not let others have their turn! Primary 1 are very good at taking turns. We know this is important because it is fair and means that everyone is happy.
We spread peanut butter or lard on to our kitchen roll tube and rolled it in seeds. We then threaded string through it so we could hang it on the trees.
We then took 4 of our bird feeders into the park and had to sit as quiet as a ninja to listen and look for birds.
We had a go at inventing a new bird! We picked our own colours for the feathers and eggs. Some of us even drew what the bird likes to eat.
We used the voting slip at the back of the activity booklet to vote for our favourite book, then posted them when we went to the Book Box!
Have fun with your magnetic white board and numbers!
Make a number line and take one away – guess which one is missing?
Mix up the numbers and put them in order
Put a whole number at the top and separate the number into parts
Can you remember your Dice Patterns?
Try making a sum with the + or – signs
Can you draw some shapes you know?
How about drawing some times on a clock
Practise writing your name 🙂

We know that wearing bright clothes helps us to be seen. We used a highlighter pen to colour our fluorescent yellow high visibility jackets. Well done Soraya, Eyad, Khadijah and George for these beautiful road safety pictures.
After learning about how it is important that cars go slowly to keep us safe, we made posters reminding drivers that there is NO NEED TO SPEED! We included road signs, people wearing high visibility jackets, roads, cars, traffic lights, lollipop people, zebra crossings, emergency vehicles. Wow! Primary 1 did such a brilliant job. Scroll through to see them all ⭐
Forces help things move. We applied our knowledge of forces when we went to the play park. Can you spot if people are pulling or pushing in the photos?
The cars on the street outside school sometimes go too fast. This is because our school is on a slope. We tested this with cars and benches.
We’ve had so much fun this week playing on our road! We have been drivers, emergency vehicles, lollipop people and pedestrians. Pushing a car and crawling at speed is great for gross-motor skills and fantastic exercise!
Anti-Bullying Week
We had a big discussion about the different places we like to go to and the people who we could speak to if we were sad. Remember, we want you to be safe and happy! ❤️️
Hello, we are the Junior Road Safety Officers. We need your help! We are trying to spread awareness about cycle safety and wearing helmets.
We have created a class challenge for you to take part in. There are four parts, can you complete them all? This will be discussed at assembly on Thursday 19th November. You have one week to complete the tasks. We wonder who will win the prizes… Good luck!
