P2 Week in Review -8th October

This week we continued to look at number bonds, adding skills and ‘number of the day’ in our Maths and Numeracy work. The children enjoyed the Ten Pin game on Education City for number bonds as well as some of the other games available to them.

We continue to work well with our sounds and tricky words, beginning to look more at our tricky words and practising these in different ways such as through Look, Say, Cover, Write, Check (LSCWC). The Year 1 – Tricky Words selection in this game is a good way to practise some tricky words using LSCWC.

In our topic work we wrote about the sort of job we would like to have in a castle such as a knight, cook or prince! After our trip last Friday to Dunbar’s Close, we used leaves as material in our art work which went home this week – we really did use a lot of different materials and tools for that piece of art!

Lastly, congratulations to our

Bryce

for being a Confident Individual with his super contributions in class, helping others and being sensible as well as always working to use his manners.

P2 Week in Review – 1st October

It has been Profile Jotter week this week! We have been working diligently to put our work into these jotters and look forward to eventually showing these off to you.

In Numeracy, we continue to work on numbers before, after and between as well as working on our Number of the Day. We looked at ‘missing’ numbers in addition sums too. The children enjoyed this number bonds game to help us with number facts and fluency: https://pbskids.org/curiousgeorge/busyday/ten/

We are continuing to work with Read Write Inc., reviewing our sounds, working to read and write using our sounds and to read our tricky words too. We were using our reading skills to read the words in this game and decide if they were real or fake words.

During Milk and Snack time, we looked at volcanoes in a short clip video and the class were keen we shared this video on the blog.

We also looked at this video about the Giant’s Causeway and how it was made by volcanoes. We listened to the legend of Finn McCool and his encounter with Benandonner which led to the creation of the Giant’s Causeway. The children particularly enjoyed this animated short about the story! We wrote a personal response to share our thoughts on this story about the Giant’s Causeway.

We had a look over some Spanish greetings this week, with children sharing what they knew or remembered and we practised some of these in class. Here you can hear some of our work!

We have been out this Friday, looking for signs of autumn using most of our senses, please look forward to seeing those photos next week!

Finally, to our Star of the Week!

Congratulations to our

Mariam

for being a Responsible Citizen and always working to be respectful, being kind and using her good manners!

Health and Wellbeing – Building Resilience.

We are all likely to experience ups and downs in life. We can’t always predict what
life throws at us. However there are things that can help us to deal with challenges
and setbacks, and even learn and grow as a result.

In this unit, we are covering:
– Everyone goes through ups and downs in their life
– Resilient people cope better with difficulties
– I can learn to be more resilient

We start the Be Resilient unit this term. Please complete the Home Task to be handed in by the 8th of October.

Home Task First Level (P2–P4)
Think about someone that inspires you – perhaps a parent, your class teacher,
grandma or a neighbour (or a character from a book or film, or someone famous).
Find out about a time they found challenging and what they did to overcome it.
What things did they do to help them cope? Create a poster with the ideas you come
up with.

Here are the electronic files for this Home Task, one is a leaflet overview for parents and the other file is the Home Task as described above.
