Assembly 20th May

Hello. It’s been a busy week – our planters are now filled with soil and classes are starting off seeds on the windowsills for a colourful welcome next session.

Our Vice House Captains had the lovely job of thanking the Dumbiedykes Residents’ Association for a kind donation as they closed their accounts for the last time. We are going to put it towarsd our ‘greening’ project.

Sadly our House Captains have had a less pleasant job checking the upper school loos after a spate of vandalism and careless behaviour led to inconvenience and a repair bill. Please can we all work together to look after our school and each other.

We found out that Mrs Henry will be joining Royal Mile as Head Teacher next session And we had yummy fruit for snack on Friday thanks to the Parent Council. We have the same again this Friday too!

So here it is – Assembly! https://youtu.be/boSTGroUuYw

Take care, Mrs Jessop!

Week beginning 17/05/21

The story this week’s learning in the nursery will be based around is:

Handa’s surprise by Eileen Browne

Join Betsy Banana for cosmic yoga

The children will explore numbers, counting forward and
backwards.

Encourage your child to help count out every day items. Count
toys into their box at tidy time.

The children will talk about the fruit Handa collects for her
friend.

The children will think about how kind it was to take fruit to a
friend, and what other kind things we can do for each other.

Encourage your child to create a thank you card for some one
that has been kind to them.

Fantastic Friday!

It’s Fantastic Friday again, where we showcase the excellent work and play from the nursery each week! This week we have been focussing on the book The Tiger Who Came to Tea, we have been having lots of interesting conversations about different types of food and the many patterns and textures of animals fur. We have been discussing tigers, creating beautiful animal pictures, matching the food that the tiger ate in the story and making some tea in the water tray. We have also been playing with the wild animals in our small world zoo and building amazing structures and obstacle courses in our construction areas. We used lots of coloured fabric to create our own patterns, used pasta and rice to create our favourite plates of food and have been exploring using different textures in our artwork. We enjoyed a fun trip to the train station, went on a forest school adventure and have been splashing in lots of muddy puddles in the garden. We are excited to see that our caterpillars are preparing to cocoon and we have been watching and discussing their progress throughout the week. We have been washing barbies and playing with sharks in our water trays, having fun experimenting with our sand and exploring different textures in our sensory tray. We have also played lots of fun imaginary games such as; teachers, drive through Macdonalds, builders and families.

Please continue to post your wonderful pictures on the Learning Journals and please contact us if you need any help to do this. We hope you have a great weekend and Eid Mubarak to all those who are celebrating this week!

Assembly 13th May 2021

This week is Mental Health Awareness Week and the theme is Nature.

You may have noticed that our Parent Council have been busy weeding and tidying our planters at the back of the school. Mr Jessop and Mr Mouat, the Janitor, have also started work on our new planters ready for every class to plant out seeds for next session. In addition Mrs Dimeck has been doing outdoor learning with classes across the school, classes have been outside for PE and fitness, bikeability and fun! Last week Primary 2 were the proud winners of a play session with our new blocks – who will it be this week?

Our Equalities Group are challenging each class to design and build their own Worry Monster. There are lots of boxes and cardboard outside my office for this purpose. I am looking forward to seeing the results. These will be checked regularly and we will offer every support we can.

I hope you enjoy this week’s assembly https://youtu.be/4Nr4mxcV_yo

I’d also like to wish Eid Mubarak to all our families celebrating this week. Take care!
