Welcome Back P5!

Welcome to Mrs. Byrne's 6th Grade ELA Class – Florence Byrne – Union Beach Public School District

Welcome Back to school P5 and thank you to both my class and the parents and carers I have spoken to for making me feel so welcome in Royal Mile Primary School. I look forward to meeting more families on Thursday 1st September from 2.30pm at our Meet the Teacher.

I have enjoyed the first full week with P5 and it has been a busy week. We have already produced and agreed our Class Charter with our key class Rights and developed our class responsibilities to safe guard our Rights. The class have been helping me to find my way around the school and discover all the great learning opportunities that we will be able to undertake over the year.

On Wednesday 31st August we will be going to Holyrood Park to work and make links with P5 from Preston Street School and the Park Rangers. This will be the beginning of many outdoor session and links with our neighboring schools. On Wednesday we will be den building and orienteering, working in groups and in partnership with the new friends we will make there. Can I remind you to return the KICK forms to school and any medication that your child requires to have in school and for the trips. I hope to post pictures of our trip to the park at the end of the week. Please ensure that your child brings appropriate clothing and footwear for the outdoor trip. We will have a snack at the Park and be back to school for lunch.

Some class reminders: PE will be on Wednesday and Thursday with Mr Madine and PE kits can be kept in school. They will be sent home at the end of each term to allow them to be cleaned. It would also be useful if your child could bring a named water bottle as the weather is still warm and if a pair of named indoor shoes can be provided as well. Homework will not start until week beginning 19th September but P5 have already started their topic about the Water Cycle and it would be great if you could talk to them about this.

Once again thank you for making my first week a very welcoming experience and I look forward to see you on Thursday 1st September.

Thanks, Mrs Leslie.

Welcome to the Summer term from Primary 5!

Primary 5 enjoyed an exciting first week back after the Easter break. We completed our A3 floor books on Egypt and Madagascar-our chosen countries within Africa for our focus study. We finished our Africa project with some beautiful artwork using paint and pastels to emanate the vibrant colours of the sunset. With help from Mrs B, we then cut out silhouettes of trees and animals to contrast against the background of dynamic shades.

Primary 5 really enjoyed the Eid party organised by some Royal Mile parents last Friday. The class had a delicious snack, a gift, face painting and henna. They had a brilliant time and thank you so much to the mums who hosted it!

Our beautiful henna hands!

Last Tuesday, Primary 5 enjoyed a wonderful trip to Holyrood Palace where we were welcomed in the fantastic new Education Centre by Annie, who told us more about Queen Elisabeth the Second and her history. We then had a fascinating private tour of Holyrood house, followed by a workshop where we designed bunting for the Jubilee celebrations.

Please be aware that homework will restart on Monday in the usual format. I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!
