Primary 2 – Week in Review 25th April – 6th May

Welcome to this week’s Week in Review where we will be looking back across this week’s short week and last week’s full week.

We got to visit Holyrood Palace and had a tour of some of the rooms last week. Everyone has some part they really enjoyed when we discussed this after we got back!

We have been working through the ‘ur‘ and ‘er‘ sounds patterns in our phonics work. This ‘ur‘ game selection and this ‘er‘ game were some of the ways we practised these patterns online. We also had a look at this game where we were deciding which sound fit the word out of ‘er,’ ‘ur‘ and ‘ir.

In Maths and Numeracy, we looked at some addition and subtraction work since we came back from our holiday as an intro into our new mental agility topic focus. We focused more on addition and looking at hundred squares again as we move onto some more subtraction in the coming weeks. The linked games may be helpful for practising.

We have been working on some paper-craft in our art last week, looking at using layers of paper shapes to create some animals. We used different tools to help us create the shapes which we cut out as well as thinking about where we would put our chosen shapes and what colours we needed for our chosen animals.

Last but not least, a big well done and congratulations to our

Eyad

for being a Confident Individual in applying himself to his learning, asking questions about what he is learning and contributing his ideas in discussions.

Primary 2 – Week in Review

A busy week on the run up to our holiday at the end of this week. We enjoyed working with our buddies on Monday, either working outside or inside our class on iPads together.

Primary 2 were absolute stars in our visit to the Canongate Kirk on Tuesday! We did our best listening as we heard a little bit about Easter and were fantastic singers in singing the main verse from This Little Light of Mine and using some of the actions as remembered from Primary 1.

We continue to explore place value and some partitioning this week with our numbers. creating hundreds numbers with dice rolls, working to partition tens numbers and working up to using 10-sided dice to create even bigger numbers! We enjoyed exploring partitioning with this game while we also enjoyed some of the place value work in the place-value-basketball game on Topmarks. We also played some games on this in Education City.

In our Literacy, we have continued to explore our sounds and read and write through the Read, Write, Inc programme. We have been looking at the ‘aw‘ sound pattern this week and enjoyed some of these games for this sound. We have also been working on our storytelling this week with a tale from India about an elephant and a dog who became best friends. We have been working up to today on our retellings of the story, writing down our retelling and working to tell it to each other!

We have also been watching our bread experiment from Science Week as the test pieces changed! As you can see, even the untouched piece of bread is beginning to decompose! The piece of bread which had been touched by an unwashed had is definitely looking worse!

We come to the end of our Week in Review with some photos of the 3D Easter eggs we decorated and have taken home. We tried to use PVA glue to help seal in the colours of the Sharpies we used and to protect our designs. Some of us worked hard to stick on cellophane for our choice of decoration.

Lastly, we continue to explore some fairy tales and fables at story time and this is one of the stories we enjoyed this week:

Finally, have a happy holiday everyone and enjoy a well deserved break however you choose to spend it! We look forward to seeing you back in school on the 25th of April!

Primary 2 – Week in Review

This week in Primary 2 our big highlight would be our tour courtesy of Edinburgh Bus Tours and met Cobbles the Scottie Dog along the way!

In our maths and numeracy, we have been focusing on finding the fractions of numbers or amounts this week. We enjoyed this game to consolidate our confidence with fractions of shapes as we moved to focus on finding halves of numbers and started to look at the division sign. We continued to explore finding quarters of numbers and how to show remainders.

In our literacy we continue to work on some storytelling alongside our Read, Write, Inc. work. ‘ew’ was our focus sound pattern this week and we explored some of the meanings of ‘ew’ words and practised our pattern with these games.

A big well done and congratulations to our

Tomasz

for being a Successful Learner in applying himself in his reading, trying to make good choices and his efforts to get on with his work.

We have been enjoying more fairy tale stories this week, with some more uncommonly known tales such as The Goose Girl, The Red Shoes and our tale below, The Magic Box. We hope you enjoy them as much as we did. We look forward to seeing you next week in advance of the Easter Holiday break!

Royal Mile Primary School Art Exhibition

Dear Royal Mile Families,

As you may be aware, our annual Art Exhibition is coming up on the 8th of April, 2022.

Due to regulations still surrounding schools, we can only invite a few of our community partners to the opening this year. They will be taken around the exhibition by our diligent, creative Art Reps. All the classes have been working very hard on our theme: Our Diverse Community and there will be a range of learning and artistic endeavours on display.

Unfortunately, parents and carers are still not able to visit as we did in previous years, however this will be a possibility after the Easter break.

We very much hope that you will be able to enjoy viewing it in person during the summer term and we will keep you informed as to when and how this will take place.

In the meantime, I wanted to share the beautiful posters created by the Art Reps to advertise the event.

We are so looking forward to welcoming you in to see the hard work by the pupils, just not quite yet!
