Monday 28th September – P1

Wow we squeezed in so much learning in our 4 day week. Have a look below to see what we have been up to…

Outdoor Learning with Mr Reid

We built nature faces 🙂

We made a sandwich for a monster!

Benefits of Using Cloud With DevOps Services - DZone Cloud

We spotted pictures in the clouds

But Miss Copeland forgot to take a photograph of this so here’s one from the internet…

Writing

I love hearing all about what you do at home. In our writing we have been trying to include tricky words like The and I. Well done to Mohammad and Rayan who both used I in their independent writing this week!

P.E

On Wednesday afternoons we do P.E. We warmed up and stretched, then practised our throwing, catching and balancing with lots of different equipment!

Shapes

We have been practising drawing our 2D shapes with water and spotting 2D shapes in the faces of 3D shapes by printing

We have also been playing games where we have to count on. When we play our board games we roll the dice, add up the spots then count on the right amount of squares.

Domino/dice patterns – We need to learn that the pattern of the spots is a number. Can you watch the video below and shout out how many spots there are?

Big Deal and Little Deal

When we have a problem we ask “Is this a big deal or a little deal”

Me!

Once a month we draw a beautiful self portrait of ourselves. We think about the song ‘Heads, shoulders, knees and toes’ when we draw to make sure we have lots of detail. We also think about what we are wearing! Do you have a heart on your zip? A clip in your hair? Let’s put that in our pictures!

Washing our hands

Don’t forget to use soap when you wash your hands. It’s the soap, not the water that kills the nasty germs. Try the experiment below at home 🙂

Home Learning in Primary 6

In Primary Six home learning activities will be based on the previous week’s learning to consolidate what has been covered in class. A weekly summary of the week’s learning and teaching will be posted to the blog on Fridays and will include suggested activities for home learning (see below). There is no expectation that all of these activities will be completed within the week and it is up to you and your child which of them you would like to focus on.

To reduce the risk of infection and cross contamination, where possible examples of home learning should be submitted electronically on Microsoft Teams or emailed to admin@royalmile.edin.sch.uk. If it is not possible to submit online for any reason please send the work in with your child in their homework folder on Thursday, so that it can be quarantined for three days before going back home on Monday.

We are currently collecting back in the homework folders which went home pre lockdown so we can refill them with resources for home learning. If you have one of these at home please send them to school with your child as soon as possible.

If you have any questions please feel free to get in touch either by commenting on this post or emailing the school admin account.

Thank you and enjoy your weekend!

This Week in Primary 2 Review and P2’s Termly Descriptor

We had a short week this week and have started thinking about Maths week work! We are looking over shapes and we reviewed what we remembered of our 2D shapes and their names. We made pictures using 2D shapes by drawing around them and later by using these shapes to print in art. We have been hunting for shapes outside and inside and seeing what 2D shapes we can see in 3D objects as we are looking around.

As we prepare for Maths Week we were looking at some of the maths words we were using this week, including the names of shapes and words for directions. We listened to and followed directions from each other and from Mrs Aylward.

We also read ‘Aaaarrgghh Spider!‘ together, looking at the pictures and talking about the story. We then went on to have some people pretend to be one of the family in the book and answer questions from others in the class.

We had a go of drawing a map of a playground and compared our maps of our school’s playground to what was really there. We had a look at a simple map of Edinburgh and places to go on it and tried out giving a partner directions to different locations on the map.

Primary 2 wanted to share this Koo Koo Kanga Roo video!

Lastly, please find linked below the Termly Descriptor for Primary 2 in PDF and Word formats.

This is the plan for learning from September to December in Primary 2.
If you have any questions, as ever, please don’t hesitate to send an email to the admin account for the attention of Mrs Aylward.

Have a lovely weekend all!

Regards,
Mrs Aylward.
