Fantastic Friday

Welcome back to Fantastic Friday where we showcase the amazing work and play done in the nursery each week. This week we have been learning about Chinese New Year and looking at different countries from around the world. We also continued to explore dinosaurs. In the art area we have been very busy creating dragon puppets and faces and tigers to mark the start of the year of the tiger. Within the room we have created our very own “Chinese restaurant” which led to lots of fun, imaginative, creative play which explored different types of food, using money and role playing a work environment. At the puzzle table we have been practicing our counting and primary colours as well as playing a Chinese New Year matching game.

In the water tray we have been interested in the pouring and measuring using different shaped beakers. We have also been practicing drawing and recognising some Chinese foods and looking at the different characters used when writing in Mandarin. In the story corner area we have been practicing our yoga skills and listening to different types of music from around the world. In the garden this week we helped to pour out our new bark into the mud kitchen, practiced our jumping and climbing and played some fun sea-life imaginary games. Some of us went on a walk to the Holyrood duck pond and enjoyed seeing and discussing the birds.

For language week we had a visit from Mrs Speedie our Spanish teacher and some P7s friends, we sang some Spanish songs and a story and listened to a German story. We even sang Baby Shark in Spanish.

Please continue to post your lovely pictures on the Learning Journals of all the fun you have at home, we love to see all the brilliant activities you get up to!

We have been singing and dancing to lovely winter music and have mastered all the Christmas songs! We made some magic reindeer food to leave out for Santa and helped make some more fragrant snow dough. We have been very busy in the art area; making sparkly Christmas trees, painting lovely penguins and colourful stockings. We enjoyed a special tasty Christmas lunch on Wednesday and got some presents from our catering team! Our Christmas party on Thursday was lots of fun; we played musical statues, musical bumps, the corner game, a Christmas listening game, did lots of brilliant dancing, enjoyed a delicious party snack and even got some presents from Santa!
