Fantastic Friday!

Welcome back to Fantastic Friday where we showcase the amazing work and play done in the nursery each week. This week, we have been very busy in nursery. A warm welcome to all our new families and children, it has been lovely to meet you all and we are so pleased to join your children on their learning journey. If you have any questions, please just ask. Staff would also like to thank all the children, for being such good helpers. They have been showing our new children around the playroom, garden, our dining room and of course the school gym hall.

This week in nursery, we have be looking at different countries/languages. The children have been making flags from their countries and designed their own flags too (please have a look at our flags, these can be seen on the playroom door and on display in the art area too). The children were able to use books and iPads to fact find about the countries and to find where in the world these are.

We have also been practicing our Scottish songs for Scottish Week. We will be have our stay and play session very soon so please keep an eye out for that. Everyone welcome!

Upstairs in the Terrific Twos we have been busy looking at colours and shapes. The children choose to make green coloured play dough with Linda. They used different shaped cutters to create their own shapes.

In the art area we created trees using brown foam and brown string. We enjoyed looking at shape books, a sorting game and puzzles, identifying some and learning new ones.

We brought out a colourful linking game, in which we joined each one together to create necklaces and bracelets. We were able to use our fine motor skills carefully and confidently put them together.

We have been exploring in the garden and have been able to join in with some of the older children and see our friends that have moved into the “big downstairs room”.

Please post pictures of the fun you have at home on the Learning Journals, we love to see what you all get up to.

Have a great weekend, we look forward to seeing you on Monday!

Fantastic Friday!

Hello and welcome back to Fantastic Friday, where we showcase all the amazing work and play done in the nursery each week. We have had a very busy week in Nursery!

In the garden, we have been investigating the weather mainly snow and ice. We were making patterns in the snow, making snowballs and attempting to make a snowman. We brought some of the ice into the Nursery and popped it in the water to see how long it took to melt, we have also been fact finding about snow and how it’s made using the iPads, whiteboard and information fact books.

We attended our primary ones nativity play on Wednesday, which was fantastic. A big well done to all the Primary ones and Ms Copeland for such an excellent show, we also attended a festive puppet show in the afternoon.

Thursday afternoon was our playroom Christmas party. We all had a great time, taking part in the party games, lots of dancing, eating delicious party food and we finished off performing our Christmas carols. Well done to everyone who worked hard to learn the songs and gave an excellent performance.
A big thank you to all our parents who attended, it’s so lovely to have you all back in the Nursery at this time of year.

Over the Christmas holidays please feel free to upload some pictures, we love speaking to the children about the fun activities and trips featured in the photos and seeing what they have been doing over the holiday season.

We hope everyone has a wonderful winter holiday. Thank you all for your ongoing support over this year and we wish all the very best in 2023. We will see you all the 5th January 2023!!!

Fantastic Friday!

Welcome back to Fantastic Friday, where we showcase the amazing work and play done in the nursery each week. This week has seen the start of Winter and the beginning of us talking about Christmas. First, however, we celebrated a birthday by baking a cake and singing. We discussed how it was icy in the morning and other types of Winter weather and how to keep warm – the children decided hats, scarves and gloves could help us all in the winter months!

The children have also been exploring the magnets, going around the room to see what sticks and what doesn’t. They were surprised to find the fish in the bubble lamp were magnetic! We talked about the force of magnets and how they can push and pull objects depending on what they are made of. They also have been sorting the animal counters into size and colour independently.

We have added new resources to our cosy corner, including cushions and bubble lamps. It’s a very nice area for relaxing and reading books. In the sand, some of the children were able to write their name with their finger and asking how to draw different letters. This is a great way to develop fine motor skills and early writing skills.

In art, we have continued the theme of light/dark and road safety by creating silhouette pictures and painting road signs. Toward the end of the week we were excited to put up our Christmas tree and decorate it, as well as dancing to Christmas music!

Upstairs in the terrific two’s we have been continuing to look at and talk about winter. We have also started to talk about Christmas and some of our friends helped to decorate the Christmas trees. We experimented with ice cubes in the water tray, seeing how long it would take to melt. In the art area we made ice paints with some lolly pop sticks which we used to create our own icy pictures.

If you have any spare boxes of tissues please can you bring them into nursery as this would be greatly appreciated. We hope you have a lovely weekend, please post the fun you have on the Learning Journals.

Fantastic Friday!

Welcome back to Fantastic Friday where we showcase the amazing work and play done in the nursery each week. This week in nursery, we have been very busy! We have been discussing road safety; how we keep safe when crossing the road, who can help us keep safe and how to travel with safety in mind. The children have been making cars, road signs, doing road safety puzzles and making their own streets with art resources.

In the art area, we have be drawing and making houses/our homes which led to discussing our families and how each family is different. Some of us chose to make necklaces and pamper each other with pretend face masks, make-up and face painting..

In the construction area, we have been building houses using both the large and smaller bricks. We worked very hard and spent a lot of time on their buildings (lots of sharing resources and idea sharing too). We have been using books/stories and our white board to look at where people live (flats/houses/caravans/huts etc).

Upstairs in the two’s room they have started to look at winter and they have been continuing with light and dark. They have been talking about the changes in the weather and what clothes they need to wear to keep warm. They have also been talking about artic animals and played with polar bears in the white water.
In the art area they have been making icy pictures with foil and some lovely penguins.

We hope you have a lovely weekend and we look forward to seeing you on Monday! Please post pictures of all the fun you have at home on the Learning Journals.

Fantastic Friday!

Welcome back to Fantastic Friday where we showcase the amazing work and play done in the nursery each week. This week at nursery we have been continuing to discuss light and dark; we made bright star pictures in art, talked about different kinds of lights, their energy sources and how we use them. We helped to make dark black play dough with sparkly glitter in it and we have been using covers and loose parts to create dark dens and cars to play in. We have also been very interested in different types of buildings that people and other animals can live in. We have been drawing our own homes and different types of buildings and have been constructing houses for ourselves using lots of different loose parts. We discussed and investigated homes from around the world and different shelters used by other animals.

We have had lots of fun building with our crates in the garden, rolling hoops, building houses and digging in the mud kitchen. We enjoyed going to the gym hall on Monday, showing off our climbing, balancing, jumping and rolling. We have been busy completing difficult puzzles and were very kind helping each other complete them. We have also been playing a fun dinosaur matching game, we demonstrated our amazing matching skills, discussing what makes them the same and different and learning all the complicated names.

Thank you to everyone who donated for children in need and dressed in their pyjamas! We hope you have a great weekend and we look forward to seeing you all on Monday! Please post some pictures of all the fun you have at home on the learning journals!
