Happy Holidays!

Dear Parents and Carers, young people and families,

I cannot believe the end of session has arrived. It has certainly been a strange last term for everyone and we have all had to find new ways to work together and stay connected.

We are still waiting for the final decision about August but please be assured that we have plans, contingency plans and contingency contingency plans all worked out so that we can send you information as soon as we are advised by City of Edinburgh to do so. It is important to follow the guidance as we take the route map out of lockdown and listen to reports in the news and particularly check the CEC website.

A big thank you to all the staff at Royal Mile, school and Nursery, for their commitment and dedication to keeping everyone busy with great learning activities and some opportunities for fun!

Thank you to the office team, who have helped keep communication moving, delivered food parcels and ipads, queued at post offices and maintained a cheerful disposition!

Thank you to all the families at Royal Mile who have supported the school and helped their children to engage with learning. For all the email messages, blog comments and photographs that have made us smile and feel connected, thank you.

This evening I will be saying farewell to Primary 7 and wishing them all the best at High School, thanks to CYP and Zoom.

Then tomorrow I will be in school to finish off a few office jobs and take a last walk round. In August it will look very different without the scaffold and the builders.

In the meantime, please stay safe and well. Enjoy the sunshine and take care.

Wow Wednesday in Primary 7

Primary 7 I have been so impressed with your participation during this summer term. It has been lovely to see what you have done online, hear from you through TEAMS or via email and generally keep in touch.

I thought it would be nice to celebrate your individuality, which is why I have posted your photos from the Transition task. Thank you Laura, Beda, Emre and Naeema!

I was really impressed with your Zoo in 2 task Oli and Naeema!

I’ve included some of my favourite creations and projects over the year! What a talented bunch!

Well done to you all! I am looking forward to seeing you tomorrow!

Dear Primary 7

Dear Primary 7,

I hope that you have enjoyed your taste of high school this week. It has been so lovely to see your photos and I hope that you enjoyed the activities as well. I had quite a lot of fun making the examples if I’m honest!

Next week, as you know, is the last week of term. I will be posting a grid for you, which apart from My World of Work, contains activities. I will be available online as usual if you are struggling with anything or would like to share what you have been doing.

In other news, this week I’m afraid I haven’t baked anything but that is because I have been planning props for a themed party. It’s my brother’s birthday at the weekend and we are planning a themed Harry Potter outdoor socially distanced party. There is really nothing I love better than a themed party! (You may have noticed my reference to this in my photo on Wednesday with the birthday bunting). Now I think about it, I’m pretty sure my brother had a Harry Potter themed birthday when he was 7 or 8 and now he’s having one when he’s turning 27!

In the photos you can see: Quidditch hoops for themed ping pong, Ferrero Roche snitches, treasure hunt clues, Mad Eyed Moody’s eye (no idea how my mum made that!) and Honeydukes sweet shop. I did make some homemade lemonade or Polyjuice potion as well. (My sister made the Honeydukes sweets and my fiancé made the Quidditch hoops, so I can’t take all the credit!). The recipe for the lemonade is below if you’d like to try it.

As always, if you have any questions or anything to share, please do email it to:

me directly, share it on TEAMS or admin@royalmile.edin.sch.uk

Have a lovely weekend Primary 7.

Take care,

Miss Kerr

Homemade Lemonade

You will need:

300g caster sugar

2 lemons-sliced

1 orange sliced

1 punnet of raspberries or strawberries

Ice and/or mint to serve

Method:

Place all the ingredients in a large saucepan and pour over 350ml cold water.

Bring to the boil, stirring often, then leave to cool.

Pour through a sieve, pressing down with a spoon to extract all the juices.

The syrup can now be stored in the fridge for up to 1 week.

To serve, pour a little into a glass and top up with sparkling or still water, ice and mint. Add the raspberries or strawberries to make it pink lemonade!

(Personally, I would add more lemons, but I like things with quite a sharp flavour. Hope you enjoy it!)
