Primary 5 Homework for Thursday, 13th of January

Dear Primary 5 families,

Happy New Year! I hope you all had a wonderful and restful break.

This week the spelling pattern for both groups is: oi/oy. There are 4 spelling tasks on the page, please choose one to complete in the homework jotter.

Ivory Group: There are 10 spelling words to practise, however if your child already knows several, they can choose to practise the three challenge words in place of 3 they already know.

Blue Group: There are 10 spelling words to practise and 3 Common Words. These will change each week.

Numeracy: We have been working out the area and perimeter of regular shapes. If you are struggling with this, please just ask me.

Remember:

Area = the space covered = length x breadth

Perimeter = the distance around the edge = Add all sides together

Area of a triangle = ½ the base x height

Mental Maths: We are finishing our last part of Number Recognition-this week we are all practising recognising money coins and notes. Taking opportunities to use money in small transactions or handling coins and notes at home would be really helpful to reinforce this.

If anything is not clear or there are any concerns, please do let me know.

I hope you all have a lovely week.

Kind regards,

Mrs Harrison

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays from Primary 5!

Primary 5 have had a busy week!

We used our knowledge of 3D shapes to assemble different nets using red, green, silver and gold card. We used ribbon and glitter to jazz them up and create our own decorations for our class Christmas tree.

On Tuesday, we invited our parents and carers in to hear us sing ‘Mary’s Boy Child’ in the outdoor classroom. For this occasion, we baked gingerbread biscuits and cupcakes, which we decorated with the utmost care and flair to share with our guests and enjoy with a nice hot chocolate. We hope you enjoyed our singing and the goodies that hopefully made it home to you if you couldn’t make it!

On Wednesday, we went on a HUGE walk to see the P5 Winter Windows Winner on display on Willowbrae Road. P5 did extremely well and walked 4 miles in 100 minutes!

Primary 5 Homework for Thursday, 9th of December

Dear Primary 5 families,

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend. This is our last week of homework before the holidays.

This week our spelling patterns are: Soft g  or sh at the end of the word.

Soft g : There are 10 spelling words to practise, however if your child already knows several, they can choose to practise the three challenge words in place of 3 they already know.

Sh: There are 10 spelling words to practise and 3 Common Words. These will change each week. There are 4 spelling tasks on the page, please choose one to complete on either the blank paper or in the homework jotter.

In place of written maths homework this week, your child will have the words to ‘Mary’s Boy Child’ by Jester Hairston on the back of their spelling sheet. Please take time to learn the words by heart.

In the blue jotter, you will find a mental agility sheet. This week, at home and in class, we are recognising numbers as both digits and words. e.g. 563 = five hundred and sixty three. Your child will have highlighted the option they wish to practise this week. This can be done as a discussion and recording in jotters is optional.
