Primary 2 Week in review

This has been yet another busy week in Primary 2! We have been reviewing our money topic this week and really thinking about giving change and adding up money before we move on to more of a numeracy focus.

We continue with our spelling work – looking at adding ‘ing‘ to the end of words when we double the consonant (such as sit + ing becoming sitting). We practised this pattern in class and used some of the free games on spellzone.com to help – https://www.spellzone.com/word_lists/list-568578.htm

Here’s some of our handwriting and tricky word work from this week!

We read and discussed If I Were a Hawk by Clare Bevan (which you can find assigned in your Active Learn) and we will continue to look at this next week.

Here are some super pictures we made as part of our exploration of the poem:

As part of our Living Things work we really enjoyed looking at the life cycles of butterflies and frogs. The children were keen to share these videos we watched about them!

We went on to show the life cycles of either a frog or a butterfly on a paper plate, though lots of us were keen to do both!

We looked at This is How a Tadpole Transforms into a Frog and Watch This Caterpillar Turn Into A Chinese Luna Moth as sped-up, real examples of the life cycles we had been looking at.

We’ve also been thinking about how we look after living things, starting with plants.

And we planted our very own radish seeds to look after on Wednesday! Our other plants from the other week are growing well too and we look forward to seeing how our radishes do.

The children also absolutely loved the following video on this link and insisted we share it!

Have a lovely weekend and we will see you next week!

Assembly JASS AWARDS June 4th 2021

This week we are celebrating the amazing achievements of our Junior Award Scheme for Schools winners.

Now you may notice a couple of mistakes and I apologise but I just got so excited and so joyful – that I lost my concentration a bit.

MOST importantly- I need to add P7 STAR OF THE WEEK Winona for her amazing focus in drama – her tone, expression and body language were superlative!

This was a wonderful assembly to make and it is evidence of the amazing talenst and skills of our young people, their families and school staff.

It is also great to know we are trailblazing as the school that has everyone from Primary 1 to Primary 7 working on the JASS awards! Go Royal Mile!

What is also really, really impressive is that these awards were achieved during a year of unprecedented challenges. So I think they are even more astonishing and the winners should feel even more proud of their achievements! https://youtu.be/Iwunjelk0YI

Look out for a mini House Card Assembly and the winners of teh House Cup for May – coming soon. This will be the penultimate house cup announcement – the next will be this year’s winners.

I hope you ahve been enjoying the lovely weather! Please take care of yourself, your family and friends as we count down to the end of session! Let’s enjoy these next few weeks!

The forecast is for sunshine and high temperature this week so please be Sunsmart!

PUT suncream on your child before they come to school (remember back of their neck as well)

WEAR a hat – preferably one that covers the back of the neck

WEAR short sleeves but have a long sleeved top so they can cover up

BRING a water bottle with plain water

HAVE a raincoat as well (it is Scotland)

This picture shows the type of cream we will use in case of emergency to prevent sunburn. if your child has skin sensitivity they should bring their own in a named bottle. More information is available here http://www.nhs.uk/live-well/healthy-body/sunscreen-and-sun-safety/ and on other sites.
