Primary 2 – Week in Review

We had a busy week this week in having a fantastic library visit as well as looking at the theme of Anti-Bullying Week. As part of our work, we enjoyed this video on how one kind word can make a difference:

We had a lovely visit to the Central Library and Vesna, the librarian, read us a story and helped us when choosing books! Lots of us got our library cards from the library and for now, the small section of these are in school for when we go to visit again. If you want this stub section to go home please do let us know! The books we took out are due back on the 8th of December so we shall be back to visit before then. We will let you know in advance of our next trip! Primary 2 love reading and loved to be able to browse and take out some books!

In Maths this week, we enjoyed playing this game to practise our adding skills and we have started to think more about subtraction! We enjoyed measuring using trundle wheels in the playground as part of our measure work too! Likewise in literacy, we continue to work on our reading and spelling and handwriting. We reviewed the ‘sh’ and ‘th’ sounds this week, you might find the optional homework on this useful. We have been thinking about expression while reading our reading books, especially when we see an exclamation mark!

Lastly, well done and congratulations to our

Roman

for being a Responsible Citizen for trying his best to do all his work and stay on task, seeking help when stuck or upset and his super resilience in dealing with being disappointed.

Have a lovely weekend all and remember to have fun!

Literacy – Look in your child’s orange homework jotter. We are focusing on handwriting as we revise our sounds. Maths – Please let me know if you are having issues logging into Education City. There will be a Measure Homework for you. Have a go at no more than two activities from the assigned homework OR try the worksheet that goes home today.

Library forms – we will be visiting the Central Library this week on Wednesday the 17th of November. If you don’t already have a library card for your child please do consider filling in the form that goes home today so we can organise this for more regular visits by the school. Primary 2 – Week in Review

NUMERACY

In maths P2 have continued to work on number of the day. Learners now choose their own number of the day by rolling a dice or for an extra challenge two dices. For  number of the day children continue to write their number in words, add 1, subtract 1, add 10, take away 10, make tally marks and draw their number.

Beyond number we are looking at measure. This week’s focus has been around weight. We became a post office employee by weighing parcels and reading scales. The children may wish to continue to play this game at home, here is a link:

We learned measure vocabulary used on scales such as grams and kilograms. We shall continue to aim to record our measurements accurately.  Next week, around measure we shall look at volume/capacity.

LITERACY

Our class novel is “Horrid Henry Meets The Queen” by Francesca Simon. P2 have found this book humorous and picked up some new vocabulary along the way – ‘mimicked’, ‘considered’, and ‘spectacular’ to name a few unfamiliar words we have discussed together.

Everyone has had an opportunity to read aloud to the teacher on three occasions, and WOW what fantastic expression some children are using retelling their stories!

We have worked on Read, Write, Ink and our focus for learning has been sentence construction. P2 are superstars using capital letters, finger spaces and punctuation at the end of their sentences (!, ? or .).

I am pleased to say, P2 enjoyed having an opportunity to work with their p7 buddies on Monday afternoon. The class split into two and we completed an art activity indoors and spent time in the outside playground to share a story with our P7 buddy. We are all looking forward to working with our buddies again very soon!

TWO PLUS ONE LANGUAGES

In Spanish we are learning colours, played bingo in pairs, and loved singing this song too. Here is the link:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jz69JxNznWA

PHYSICAL EDUCATION:

We have completed our block of gymnastics and are now looking at dance. This week we became familiar with a Scottish ceilidh dance and a Superman party dance. Videos and photographs to follow. The children had lots of fun.

Kind Regards

P2 Week in Review – 5th November

Hello all! Happy Bonfire Night and welcome to this week’s review for Primary 2.

We had a talk and a think about fireworks safety this week, creating some fireworks art with some safety advice! Here’s some of our completed work as well as work in progress.

We started to look at measure as our new maths topic. We have been looking at some standard units of measure, especially for length, but also having a go at using everyday objects as ‘non-standard’ ways to measure things. We explored ways to measure everyday objects using a range of objects like cubes, paper clips, lollipop sticks and our own hands. We continue to look at number bonds and counting on and back from numbers too.

We have started to look at non-fiction texts with ‘Who Lives Here?‘ on Active Learn. We are still looking at this online book but the children were excited for when we can read this on our Active Learn accounts at home! Alongside our work on tricky words and using our sounds, we are having a look at capital letters again. This game can be helpful to match the capitals to their lower-case letters.

Lastly, congratulations to our

Ragad

for being a Responsible Citizen for always trying her best, working hard and showing kindness to her classmates and staff.
