Snow Dough

We have been making snow dough in the nursery. It is very simple to make and only takes two ingredients so we thought we would share it so you can try it at home. Experiment with different scents and colours of conditioner and feel free to send us pictures of your creations.

Recipe: Cornflour and hair conditioner.

Mix together in a bowl, gradually adding conditioner and stirring until it starts to come together. It may separate into lots of little balls, squish them together with your hands and your snow dough is ready! You can add glitter for some extra sparkle if you like.

Fantastic Friday!

This week in the nursery we are still exploring light and dark and have started to discuss winter. We have been mixing different colours of paint to see what different light and dark shades we can create. We have also made spotlight shadow pictures, recycled models of our houses with lit up windows and bright lamp light pastel pictures. Some of us enjoyed making their own story books at the writing table, coming up with their own plots and illustrating their ideas.
We made more snow dough to play with which made the nursery smell lovely. We helped to make some yummy pancakes and decorated some delicious “space biscuits” for snack. Now that the weather has turned Wintery, we have been discussing how to keep ourselves warm with hats, gloves, scarves, hot food and drinks. We have started to practice Christmas songs for our Christmas party – we have particularly enjoyed Feliz Navidad! We will send home a leaflet with the lyrics of our Christmas songs and would really appreciate it if you practiced these at home with your child.

Please continue to post your lovely pictures of all the fun you have at home on the Learning Journals. The newsletter will be sent out shortly and will have all the dates of our upcoming Christmas activities. We hope you have a great weekend and look forward to seeing you on Monday!

Fantastic Friday!

This week we have continued to discuss light and dark, exploring what produces light and what lights can be used for. We continued to read stories about space, danced to fun songs about planets and played with our small world space station and solar system. We began to explore sea creatures and how they use light and darkness by watching some interesting videos and reading stories together. We made a cosy tent with our construction material, fluffy blankets and cushions and spent a lot of time relaxing in the dark.

We were very creative this week; we made shiny moon pictures with foil, used fruit to print some colourful planets and used black and blue paper to illustrate the differences between dark night time and light day time. We coloured in some lovely pudsey bear pictures for children in need, used pastels and chalk to create some cool dark pictures, used the iPad to find animals to draw and some of us practiced writing our names. We also helped to make tasty star shaped pancakes for snack and helped to make some snow playdough which was so fun to play with and smelled amazing! We will be posting the snow playdough recipe on the blog so please keep an eye out so you can make it at home!

We were very energetic in the gym hall this week; practicing our climbing, balancing and jumping on the gymnastics equipment, showing off our amazing throwing skills with bean bags and hoops, dribbling and passing basketballs and balancing on the balance beam. We spent a lot of time playing in the garden; riding our bikes, driving the toy car, building amazing trains with loose parts, climbing and balancing on the climbing frame, playing with the balls and some of us even demonstrated some impressive skipping with our colourful ropes.

Please continue to post your lovely pictures of the fun you have at home on the Learning Journals. If your child is a pre-schooler and you have not yet registered for school please make sure you get your application in as soon as possible! We hope you have a great weekend and look forward to seeing you on Monday!
