Fantastic Friday!

Welcome back to Fantastic Friday where we showcase the amazing work and play we have done in the nursery each week. This week we have been exploring sea-life; the children have been using the iPads and the laptop to find information and search for stories and songs. The children are able to identify a lot of different kinds of sea life and some of the children have been very good at guessing the animal sound listening games. Some children enjoyed drawing an under the sea scene featuring their favourite sea creatures. In the snack area the children took part in baking they’re own delicious starfish and fish biscuits for snack.

A lot of the children have been asking questions about dinosaurs so we have set up a dinosaur world, which has led to some fantastic role play in small groups. We have been reading lots of interesting books about dinosaurs, playing dinosaur turn taking and counting games and making dinosaur artwork. We have also been very impressed by how many children can remember and identify lots of different dinosaur names.

Our new children have settled in very quickly and have even started to form some lovely friendships. A big thank you to all the children for being kind, helpful and for showing our new friends what we do in nursery!

Please continue to post pictures of the fantastic work and play the children enjoy at home on the Learning Journals. We love to see all the fun activities you get up to! We hope you have a great weekend and look forward to seeing you all on Monday!

Fantastic Friday.

We have had a very busy first week back in the nursery. Some of the children were showing an interest in sealife, so we have been learning about different creatures that live under the sea. We have read a variety of sea themed books and looked up videos to find information on sharks, whales, dolphins and more!

In the art area, we have made our own fish designs, printing and playing with sea creatures and shells in the water tray.
The children have also been engaging in roleplay, dressing up as pirates and building boats in the construction.
For snack, the children asked to make biscuits and pasta, so we have been busy cooking, baking and practicing washing the dishes after. We have also been experimenting while making our snow dough, using different types of conditioner to see what colours and scents we can create. The children have also been doing good turn taking while playing board games, such as a pirate memory game and a colour matching game. In the garden, we have been enjoying the bikes and playing red light, green light.
The children have also been enjoying dressing up and dancing. Our favourite songs of the moment being Let it Go and the Floor is Lava. Finally, we would like to welcome our new friends that have joined the nursery this week and who are settling in very well, as a well as our two new Early Years Practitoners, Stephanie and Lucy.

Forest Schools

For the last few weeks, a group of us have had fun exploring our forest school, we have a been deciding our boundaries and marking the area by choosing trees as markers. At each session, we risk assess the area before exploring what it has to offer before playing sardines which is a game similar to hide and seek, and we have done some creative activities such as leaf rubbing and cairn building. Next year, we aim to continue these sessions and explore our forest schools in 2022.
