Fantastic Friday!

Welcome back to Fantastic Friday where we showcase the amazing work and play in the nursery each week. This week in nursery we have been continuing to explore and learn different languages. We have been sharing greetings in the different languages spoken by our families and we have been practicing them in the morning at registration. We have also been listening to songs like the alphabet song in different languages. We have been reading stories about different countries and cultures and having interesting discussions about our similarities and differences.

In the art area we were painting and decorating our own flags and making Valentine’s Day cards and decorating them. At the puzzle table we played a matching game where we match the flag to the right country on the sheet. We celebrated a birthday in nursery this week so we helped to bake a yummy birthday cake for snack.

In the construction area we have been busy building houses and caves! Using Lego we have enjoyed making cube shapes and building fences. We have been doing lots of dressing up in the house corner and roleplaying as families has been. The weather has been very cold and wet but we have been enjoying jumping in muddy puddles and playing our own parachute games!

Hope you all have a lovely February break, please continue to post pictures of the fun you have at home on the Learning Journals.

Fantastic Friday

Welcome back to Fantastic Friday where we showcase the amazing work and play done in the nursery each week. This week we have been learning about Chinese New Year and looking at different countries from around the world. We also continued to explore dinosaurs. In the art area we have been very busy creating dragon puppets and faces and tigers to mark the start of the year of the tiger. Within the room we have created our very own “Chinese restaurant” which led to lots of fun, imaginative, creative play which explored different types of food, using money and role playing a work environment. At the puzzle table we have been practicing our counting and primary colours as well as playing a Chinese New Year matching game.

In the water tray we have been interested in the pouring and measuring using different shaped beakers. We have also been practicing drawing and recognising some Chinese foods and looking at the different characters used when writing in Mandarin. In the story corner area we have been practicing our yoga skills and listening to different types of music from around the world. In the garden this week we helped to pour out our new bark into the mud kitchen, practiced our jumping and climbing and played some fun sea-life imaginary games. Some of us went on a walk to the Holyrood duck pond and enjoyed seeing and discussing the birds.

For language week we had a visit from Mrs Speedie our Spanish teacher and some P7s friends, we sang some Spanish songs and a story and listened to a German story. We even sang Baby Shark in Spanish.

Please continue to post your lovely pictures on the Learning Journals of all the fun you have at home, we love to see all the brilliant activities you get up to!

Fantastic Friday

Welcome back to Fantastic Friday where we showcase the excellent work and play done in the nursery each week. This week we have been continuing to explore sea-life and dinosaurs; reading interesting stories, singing songs and doing themed yoga. We have been discussing all the different animals that live under the sea and the different species of dinosaurs, learning the complicated names. In the art area we made some colourful dinosaur masks, painted dinosaur footprints, made paper plate velociraptors and lovely under the sea gel-paper pictures. In the drawing area we practiced counting fish, matched and drew our own detailed dinosaurs and showed off our amazing numeracy skills with a number matching game.

We set up a small dinosaur world and a small ocean which led to lots of detailed, interesting small world play. In the construction area we talked about size, comparing our size with that of whales and dinosaurs. This led to us experimenting with measuring our height and that of the structures we build. We enjoyed comparing our heights and seeing what animals are the same size as us. In the snack area we helped to make some yummy shortbread for a special Burns night Scottish snack. In the garden we built towers with tires, played MacDonald’s drive through, sped around our road on bikes, made some dens with the climbing frame and practiced our balancing and climbing on our loose parts.

Please keep posting your lovely photos on the Learning Journals it is great to see all the fun you have at home. We hope you have had a great week and that you enjoy your weekend!
