Primary 2 Week in Review

Firstly a big warm welcome back to everyone this week! Wow, it’s already heading to summer.

Please do check that P.E. kits and suitable outdoor clothing is coming into school. As the weather becomes warmer, water bottles will prove even more invaluable.

Due to Bikeability starting up on Thursday afternoons, we are going to shift our main P.E. slot from that time. Having voted between a couple of options we will move this slot to Mondays.

Literacy

We continued with ‘soft c’ patterns this week with ‘nce’ as found in once or chance. We continued to practise writing and thinking about the meanings of the words and we played one of the games below though some of us were excited about trying out some of the other free games on this word list: https://www.spellzone.com/word_lists/games-320.htm

Art

On our first day back we had a go at making some ‘stained glass’ window crafts using tissue paper and black sugar paper which will have gone home this week.

Maths

We have been working on our number skills and laying out answers for questions this week. We used some Level 1 work from https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/daily10 to work with.

It was so lovely to see everyone and get back into the swing of things. Please do check out the blog for homework on Monday and we look forward to seeing and hearing from you!

Relationships, Sexual Health and Parenthood Lessons

This term we will start to cover the RSHP (relationships, sexual health and parenthood) programme in school. To start the children are working on the topic of my body. They will be learning about how their body changes with puberty. All children will learn about menstruation (a girl having their period), about changes in emotions with puberty, about keeping their body healthy and about personal hygiene. The learning activities will help the child build a positive relationship with their body. They will also
learn the correct names for male and female genitals and learn about the reproductive organs, so that we can learn in later lessons about how babies are made, pregnancy and birth.

The full progression including the lesson plans and materials can be found here. We will post updates on what will be covered weekly, to allow you to view the materials in advance if you wish to do so.

Below is an information letter outlining the aims and content of the programme.

Dora’s Eggs

The story this week’s learning in the nursery will be based around is:

Dora’s Eggs by Julia Sykes

The children will be thinking about what Dora thought was special about the baby animals and how proud she was of her chicks.                                                                                                                       Talk to your child about what makes them special, what are they proud of doing?

The children will learn the names of farm animals and their babies.         Ask your child to draw their favourite farm animal and baby, can they tell you their names?

The children will look at how many babies the animals have.                                                                             Look at the pictures and encourage your child to count the animals. Can they write the number?

Fantastic Friday!

It’s Fantastic Friday again, where we showcase the brilliant work and play taking place in the nursery and at home each week! We have had a lovely week getting ready for the Easter holidays, we have been reading the book Rabbits Don’t Lay Eggs and discussing how all animals have individual skills, talking about our own unique abilities, where different animals live and the patterns and sounds of language. We enjoyed Easter egg hunts in the garden, making yummy chocolate crispy cakes and talking about how some of us will celebrate Easter. We have enjoyed playing out in the sunshine on our bikes, in the mud, building amazing structures, going out on walks in the local area and planting wheat, raspberries, strawberries and sunflowers.

We had fun making Easter playdough in the shape of different animals, nests and dens using sticks and blankets, we wrote our own signs to put up around the nursery, painted lovely colourful pictures, made sheep with cotton wool, fairies, butterflies and lovely Easter baskets with recycled materials. We had messy fun with shaving foam and played and experimented with letters in the water trays.

We hope you enjoy your holiday and we will see you again in two weeks, on Tuesday the 20th of April. Please post some photos of the fun activities you do while on holiday on the Learning Journals!
