I hope you all had a restful and enjoyable summer break. It has been good to get to speak to some of you at the end of the day and put faces to name. I am sure in the coming weeks I’ll be able meet and speak to more of you.
We had had a fantastic first week in Primary Five, taking time to re-connect after the break, completing our first piece of writing and discussing our rights and how we can make sure we are all working together to support and protect those rights. We have highlighted four of the United Nations Convention of the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) to focus this year in Primary Five, forming our class charter.
‘I have the right to an education.’ Right 28
‘I have the right to meet with friends and join with groups.’ Right 15
‘I have the right to be protected from being hurt or badly treated.’Right 19
‘I have the right to relax and play.’ Right 31
Sharing Our Success
Our writing focus this week has been recipe poems. I challenged the learners to create a recipe poem for the ‘perfect teacher’. It was fantastic to see so many learners challenging themselves and having success. Below are just some examples of the learners’ amazing writing.
Odd One Out – For each of your spelling words, write four words. One is your spelling word, two relate to your spelling word and one is the odd word out that doesn’t fit with the other two.
Wacky Words – On a sheet of paper, write your spelling words in different directions, filling up the whole sheet. Use different colours and types of writing for each word.
Rhyming Wheels – Think of as many words as you can that rhyme with your spelling words.
Alliteration – Write a sentence for each of your spelling words using as much alliteration as possible.
Sentence Smart – Write a sentence for each of your spelling words.
Story Time – Write a story using as many of your spelling words as you can. Underline each of your spelling words.
Working Out Words – Group your spelling words into nouns, adjectives, verbs etc.
Cartoon Connection – Create a cartoon strip using as many spelling words as you can.
You have an addition and subtraction code cracking activity for homework. You can choose from 2 digits, 3 digits or 4 digits. First work out what the numbers are (using the emojis to help you), then add your numbers together.
