Scots Week 23rd -26th January at Royal Mile Primary School
Scots Week will be taking place at Royal Mile Primary School this week 23rd – 26th January to celebrate the Scottish Poet Robert Burns’ birthday and our Scottish literature, dance, art and song. In class we will be taking part in Scottish dancing, singing Scots songs, looking at Scottish writing and listening to the Scots language.
At the end of the week we hope that parents/carers can visit our Scottish Week show case starting at 11.30am. Where P1- 4 will be showing their Scottish themed activities in their classrooms and P5-7 will be Showcasing their Scottish dancing, drama and singing in the PE hall.
To share this great week of activities we have attached the songs, stories and poems that we are going to have access to in class. Please enjoy and come along for the banter on Friday!
Read, Write, Count drawing competition
Each year the Read, Write, Count programme gifts over 120,000 bags of books and fun learning materials to every P2 and P3 child in Scotland. This year they are aiming to tackle waste by using a more environmentally friendly bag.
Their new bags are fully recyclable, made from 40% recycled content and are produced in a factory that uses 100% renewable energy. (Find your local recycling point(this will open in a new window) through Recycle Now.)
To celebrate their new bags, they are running an exciting art competition for all P1–3s across Scotland. They would love you to draw a design that represents looking after and loving our planet. The entries will be judged by an expert panel including bestselling author and illustrator Vivian French.
The winning design will be printed on all the new Read, Write, Count bags gifted during Book Week Scotland in November 2023.
Alongside the printed design, the winner will receive an artist’s goodie bag and their class will receive a book donation for their library. The second and third placed entries in each stage will also win a fantastic selection of books for their school.
The deadline to submit is Thursday 23 February and the winner will be revealed in March. So, grab your paint and get inspired by all things green!

Lots of fun learning going on!
Hello parents and carers,
This week, Primary 3 have taken their learning across different curricular areas and having fun whilst doing so.
In Maths, the children have been able to consolidate their learning with the use of fun interactive Maths games on the iPads (pictures of this can be seen on the weekly SWAY from Ms Henry).
In our topic work about Scotland, we have been learning Scots words and the children have been able to use some of these words in our Literacy tasks as well our daily talking and listening.
Below you can see the lovely pieces of art work the children worked on when we were learning about a famous Scottish artist – Steven Brown.
We look forward to welcoming you into our classroom next Friday 27th at 11.30am to share with you some of our learning and have a little Scots week/Chinese New year fusion celebration 🙂

Happy 2023!
Hello everyone!
I hope everyone had a lovely Winter break.
It’s been great to have a full class of children back in and they are all ready and eager to learn in this new year.
Below you can see some of our activities within this week.
The children have enjoyed “making Maths fun” by learning and playing together on Snakes and Ladders. If you have the game at home, challenge yourself to beat your child! They are getting good at their counting with this game 🙂
We spent some time in the library choosing some new books for our story corner.
The children really do enjoy a good story and like to discuss what they are reading.
As of this week, in addition to the Reading and answering questions home learning, a new Maths sheet has been stuck into the homework jotters. These do not need to be completed all at once. The children can take their time to work through the grid. Take a task or two each day and all this extra preparation at home will help with their class work.
A gentle reminder that homework folders are given out on Thursdays and returned by the following Wednesday. We ask that parents and carers remind their children to return the reading books as other classes need to use them too. If you have any questions regarding this, please do not hesitate to contact me. Thank you for your cooperation.
