P3 News and Home Learning

We went to the Children’s Library this week to listen to stories and look around the library. We were able to find books on our Climate and Weather topic and next time we go we will be able to borrow books as we have nearly all got our library cards.

Home Learning this week will be Maths, Reading for Pleasure, Spelling Challenges and the Shanarri Grid. Please find attached the math and spelling for this week and hard copies and bags will be issued on Monday and should be returned on Friday.

Our lovely volunteer Reading Partners from Canongate Publishers, who support our reading on a Tuesday in Literacy, have kindly invited us to visit them on Wednesday 20th December in the morning. They are organising fun Christmas activities for the class and a chance to do some Christmas Reading.

P3 News and Home Learning

Last week P3 started their Imaginative Writing and together we began to create a story called the Storm. This week P3 will continue to write the story and add their own twist to end of the story. In Maths we are continuing to look at our Mental Strategies Rainbow and focusing on multiplication and we will be looking at the patterns and links between the 2, 4 and 8 times table. We are also looking at direction and turns in non number this week.

On Thursday we are visiting the Library for a tour and to get our library cards, I have sent home library forms to be completed so that your child is able to have a library card to borrow books. This is a great free resource and you will be able to use the cards during holidays to borrow books to read.

Home Learning this week will be given out on Monday to be returned on Friday. There will be a Mental Maths Rainbow Strategies challenge sheet, a Spelling challenge sheet and book to read for pleasure. Children will get their book changed or they can continue reading it when they bring their home learning bag with their reading book. There is a new challenge grid based on the areas of SHANARRI that the children have been learning about in class and this will be other curriculum home learning until the end of term.

P3 Home Learning and News

Well done to everyone who took part in Scottish Book Week at home. We had a great week reading in class, discussing what was needed in our Recipe for a Book Reading School and some people tried the Scottish Book Quiz, winners will be announced this week. It was lovely to hear Alisa’s Mum read a Ukrainian fairy tale in her home language at our Scottish Book Bug launch on Friday and a big thank you for all who came to join us in class.

This week home learning will be sent out on Monday and should be returned on Friday. There will be a simplified Rainbow Mental Maths Strategy sheet with three challenges to follow up the work we are doing on Multiplication and Division. Once again spelling home learning with challenges and for reading there is a book chosen by your child to read for pleasure. However the class can try the activities from the activity book sent home in the Book Bug bag. related to their two new books.

Can I please remind you to send in a change of shoes and kit for PE. A change of shoes is really useful due to the amount of rain we have had and means that children do not sit with wet feet in class. Thank you for all your support in this matter.
