Welcome to Primary 3 2018!

Hello and welcome back to school for Primary 3!

This week and next we are having our homework information sessions in class. We will focus on Literacy and what this looks like in our homework tomorrow.

Homework 20th August

We have worked on our Look, Say, Cover, Write, Check (LSCWC) for our spelling words this week so please take time to look over our Spelling Grid and choose one activity to do with your child. Indicate which task you have done by dating the matching activity’s box.

As the Reading Journal is a new homework addition for Primary 3, we will look over this in our homework information session. When you receive this booklet, please remember to record what book your child was reading this week at home, any comment they have and initial this. Choose one sheet to work on to hand in for Thursday.

We look forward to seeing you tomorrow and next week!

P3 Research Topic-Asia

Dear Parents/Carers,

This term Primary 3 are finding out about the continent of Asia. We have discussed different aspects of what we would like to know and decided we would like to compare across the key countries of: Japan, China, India and Russia. Each pupil has identified a topic to research. For literacy, we are looking at reading for information, summarising and note taking and we shall be exploring these skills in class. Information can be sourced online, from local libraries, magazines and we shall have a look in the school library for relevant non-fiction books to send home where possible. Any findings or notes taken can be brought in as it is done or by Monday, 11th of June when we shall start to collate our findings into a display. Your support in this is greatly appreciated.

Topic List:

Food-Music-Festivals-Transport-Money-Clothes–Languages/Script/Writing–Art-Weather-

Please check which topic your child will be researching!

CYP are offering a homework club on Wednesday afternoons where pupils can have access to the internet. Please see link below.

P3 Homework

Dear parents/carers,

This term, the majority of Primary 3 will have a written maths homework task to complete in their jotters. This will relate to what we have been doing in class and is intended as a revision exercise. For the next few weeks, this task will focus on times tables. Further practise can be done on Education City. If your child does not have a written task stuck in their jotter, please continue to practise the numeracy grids with them, stuck on the back page.

The spelling format remains the same-look, cover, write, check-three times, followed by a homework task chosen from the grid at the front of their jotter. These can be dated when they are done.

From next week, all P3 children will be taking their ‘Reading Passport’ home. In this, they record what they have been reading that week and review the book. This only needs to be done as they finish a book, so if they are currently enjoying a longer one, this can be completed when it is finished. We will go through the first page in class this week to ensure that all children know the format.

Many thanks for your continued support with homework,

Miss Kerr

Literacy in P3

P3 have been working really hard on their grammar and poetry writing this week. We had a table challenge to come up with as many verbs as we could in 5 minutes!

Well done yellow table!

Today, we were looking at writing our own poems in the style of limericks. We worked together to create a class one first! We hope you find it as funny as we did!
