P2’s Term Overview

Please see the document attached that shares the learning Primary 2 will undertake this Term – up until the Easter holiday.

Names in Property

It’s very upsetting losing property and we do try our best as staff to ensure pupils arrive and leave with their items.

Writing names inside property is the easiest way to ensure their return – there are many creative ways that you can do this now.

Writing your name on the label in a biro pen or permanent marker.

Numeracy in P2

Finding half of a quantity

What objects do you share equally into 2 groups? One shoe on this foot, one shoe on this one… One glove on this hand, one glove on this one… There is 3 people having dinner so we need 3 knives and 3 forks, 3 and 3 makes 6….

Try this fun ‘Hit the Button’ game at home https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/hit-the-button

Pupils should be able to apply their doubles knowledge when finding half of a quantity

Half of 4 is 2
Double 2 is 4

Half of 10 is 5

Double 5 is 10

Welcome back P2!

It’s been a great start back to school. Everyone seems recharged and there is lots of enthusiasm for learning

Homework

Colin is now with us Tuesday-Friday until lunch time.
Supporting Primary 2 during playtime and lunch time is Mrs D and Mrs B.

Pupils spend 1:1 time with Miss Copeland each week, looking at their reading books and homework jotter. To support this, we are trialling spreading 1:1 time across the week.
We would be grateful if you could check the timetable below and return your child’s homework folder on this day.

Show and Tell

Pupils have voted to introduce Show and Tell. On their selected day, pupils will be asked to present their topic to the class. Below is the timetable.

Topics could include but are not limited to; rainbows/scouts, famous footballers, dinosaurs, periods of history, historic events, countries, sports medals, famous person, family member’s life events, religions/festivals, origami – anything that they are really interested in and could talk about for more than 2 minutes and up to 5 minutes.
They could show a poster with pictures they could talk through, bring in objects to show or read a book/comic book that they have made themselves. We are looking for lots of facts, how to do something or stories.
We very much do not want pupils to bring in toys. We would like pupils to share something that they are interested in and share that information/learning with their peers.
Adult support at home will be necessary however we would like pictures and writing to be the pupils own work. Pupils are also allowed to create a video/movie at home which can then be shared as part of their show and tell e.g. videos of the pupil skateboarding, performing ballet or playing shinty.

We hope this will give pupils a voice and opportunity to share something they feel very passionate about! Any questions, please ask!

Maths – Symmetry

Last week we revised the learning from before the holidays.

  • create symmetrical pictures
  • match the other half of a picture
  • draw the other half of a picture
  • sort images into symmetrical or not symmetrical
  • find the line of symmetry in an image

https://www.topmarks.co.uk/symmetry/symmetry-matching

https://www.topmarks.co.uk/symmetry/symmetry-sorting

This has lead us on to this week’s learning of fractions.

When finding half of an object, we need to…

  • Find the middle of the object (we draw a dot)
  • Use the dot as a guide when moving the ruler around until both sides are equal/the same

We have also begun to look at half of an amount

Check out the games on your Education City log in – the homework titled ‘Maths – Symmetry and Half’.
