P7 Monuments – Virtual Tour Part 5
James Clerk Maxwell is a physicist who is associated with electromagnetism. We used our critical thinking and research skills to try and work out how an electromagnet works: a magnetic field is produced by passing electric current through copper wire wrapped around a piece of iron. This magnetic field can be turned on and off and can vary in strength. Then to understand the importance of this discovery, we made a list of all the things that use them:
Having decided that we would like to make our own electromagnets, we made a list of things we would need and drew diagrams to show how we would do it:
We have most of the materials that we need in school, so when we have built and tested them we will update this blog.
