Homework in P5

Welcome to Primary 5!

Homework will be given out on a Monday and is to be returned on a Thursday. Children who have not completed their homework by Thursday will attend a reflection time on the Friday. Children are expected to spend roughly an hour a week on their homework.

Homework will consist of spelling, reading and maths work. There may also be topic work to support what is being covered in class.

The homework for the week commencing 20th August 2018 is detailed below:

Maths

Maths homework will usually be set on Education City. All children have been given their logins and as part of their homework for this week children have been asked to make sure that they are able to access the site.

Children have also been given a worksheet sheet on place value to complete. This will support what we have been learning in class.

Reading

Children are to read a book of their choice and record this in the grid at the front of their reading journals. They should list the name of the book, the pages that they have read and a comment about what they have read so far. This could be a section that they particularly enjoyed or a character that they like.

Children should also complete the first task in their reading journal, creating an advert for their current reading book.

Spelling

Dead
Head
Read
Bread
Tread
Health
Spread
Feather
Leather
Wealthy

Children have been given the above list of spelling words. Children should complete one of the spelling activities from their spelling grids which should also be in their homework jotter. Children should tick off spelling activities that they have completed.

Welcome to Primary 3 2018!

Hello and welcome back to school for Primary 3!

This week and next we are having our homework information sessions in class. We will focus on Literacy and what this looks like in our homework tomorrow.

Homework 20th August

We have worked on our Look, Say, Cover, Write, Check (LSCWC) for our spelling words this week so please take time to look over our Spelling Grid and choose one activity to do with your child. Indicate which task you have done by dating the matching activity’s box.

As the Reading Journal is a new homework addition for Primary 3, we will look over this in our homework information session. When you receive this booklet, please remember to record what book your child was reading this week at home, any comment they have and initial this. Choose one sheet to work on to hand in for Thursday.

We look forward to seeing you tomorrow and next week!

Welcome to Primary 7

Welcome to the Primary 7 blog 2018/2019! As the new term gets underway, please find below some information that should be helpful.

PE is on Monday and Friday. Please ensure that your child has indoor shoes, a PE kit (shorts/tracksuit bottoms and a t-shirt). These are usually kept in school on their peg.

Thank you to everyone who made it along to the homework session yesterday. For those of you who could not make it, some useful information is below and the powerpoint is attached to this post.

Each P7 pupil has a homework folder in which to write out their spellings and choose a spelling task from the grid (which can be ticked and dated when done). The spelling words are copied into the homework diaries, but will also be posted on the blog each week.

There is a reading journal in the folder. Choose a task each week to complete in relation to a book that is being read and enjoyed at home. These do not have to be completed in order.

From next week, Maths consolidation tasks will be set on Education City. For this week, please re-familiarise yourself with the website and check the login works. The login is the same as last year and a copy of it is stuck in the homework diary.

New Term, New Friends

Hello everyone, we hope you have all had a lovely Summer. We are very happy to welcome back some of our friends from last year as well lots of new friends to play with. This month we will be mostly focusing on settling back into nursery and exploring  our new natural resources.

We have been drawing self portraits for our “Selfie” display and making cake pictures for our birthday chart. We have also been baking, making milkshakes and celebrating a couple of children’s birthday. It’s certainly been a busy first week back!

We are sad to have said goodbye to Ali in Terrific Two’s and Susan in our Preschool Nursery but we are very happy to welcome our new Principal Teacher Helen People’s into the nursery! Please stay for a hot drink on a chat on Thursday morning (23rd) to get to know her.

Nursery Newsletter August 2018

Welcome back to nursery everyone, we hope you had a safe and happy summer break. A special welcome to the new boys and girls joining both the Carlton Hill and Castle Hill classes. We know everyone will join us welcoming them and helping them to settle in.

This month we will be focusing on learning the routines and following rules as well as developing our independence. Children will be encouraged to select resources that they wish to use and to put them away when they are finished. You may notice more natural resources in the nursery rooms, these have been put out for children to explore and experiment with and we hope they will develop their curiosity and inquiry skills.

Please remember all children need to change their shoes before they come into the playrooms, these should be shoes that are sturdy and that you are happy for them to get messy. Children should keep a change of clothes in a bag on their peg in the cloakroom.

Snack money should be paid through PARENTPAY please speak to a member of staff in nursery or at the school office if you have any difficulty paying this or accessing the system.
