This Week’s Challenges

Our Nursery challenges this week will be based around the story SUPERTATO by Sue Hendra. As today is the in-service day and for you usually a holiday, why not listen to the story and get yourself ready for some fun by making a superhero mask?

You can listen to the story here.

And these may help with your mask making although I’m sure you can make a brilliant one without a printer!

Superhero Masks

Once you have made your mask, you could have a look in the freezer and see if there are any evil peas there! Is the bag full or have some escaped?

We look forward to seeing pictures of your masks!

Primary 7 Blog

Dear Primary 7

Dear Primary 7,

How are you all? I hope that you have had a good week. As you will have seen from the blog, we are in the process of setting you all up with an email account that you will take through to High school. I can’t describe how lovely it has been to hear from you throughout this week as you figure out how to set up your emails and access TEAMS.

I have uploaded some resources onto TEAMS (Fry’s words and spelling activities so far) which you can access if you click on the FILES tab, then the folder CLASS MATERIALS. I will also try to upload recordings of Chapter 14 and Chapter 15 of the Boy in the Striped Pyjamas for you to listen to. There are some questions at the end of the recording for you to think about next week. The reading task for next week’s grid also relates to the chapters, so please let me know if you are struggling to access the recording. Remember next week is technically a 3 day school week, so while I shall post the grid on Monday (there will be a special post on Tuesday related to V.E. Day with fun activities to try) I do not expect you to be working on Monday or Friday as these are you holidays.

As always, if you have any questions or anything to share, please do email it to: admin@royalmile.edin.sch.uk or email me directly if you have your own email up and running.

In other news, we decided to have a pizza making competition this week! I have attached photos and recipes for you to try at home. Copper is very happy, although he sometimes doesn’t understand why he can’t have attention all the time, so he makes sure he is in the middle of all my work! He also listened to the reading chapters and he agrees with Bruno, Lieutenant Kotler is really not very nice at all. (I know this because he whinges when I read his words, maybe it’s the scary voice I try to put on!)

Anyway lovelies, I hope you enjoy the recipes and pictures. I am looking forward to hearing from more of you and to keep hearing from those of you who have been in touch. Have a lovely weekend, look after yourselves and those in your home.

Take care!

Miss Kerr

Pizza ingredients

3 cups of Bread Flour (if you have it, plain flour should work too)

Dried yeast -1 packet (about 15g approximately)

Half teaspoon of salt

Half teaspoon of sugar

2 tablespoons of olive oil

Put the all the ingredients in a big bowl and mix with a spoon.

Get some room temperature water (you shouldn’t notice a temperature difference when you hold your finger in the water) and add 1 cup to start.

Slowly add the water (and more if you need it) and knead until all ingredients combine. If you are not sure what kneading means, follow the link below.

https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=knewading+pizza+dough+video&sourceid=ie7&rls=com.microsoft:en-GB:{referrer:source}&ie=UTF-8&oe=#kpvalbx=_Dg-sXvOsA4Wb1fAP9YmH2Ac25

The dough should be tacky to touch. (by tacky, I mean, it’s a bit sticky, like used Sellotape).

Cover the bowl with a tea towel and leave to proof (this is when the dough rises with the yeast) in a dark place for as long as you can wait! (at least 2-3 hours, or overnight if possible).

Preheat your oven to 200c. It should be fully heated before you put your pizza in.

Divide in two and roll out pizza dough.

Add your toppings, cook in oven at high temperature. Start with a timer of 8 minutes and keep checking it after that.

Suggestions for toppings:

Passata (heated slightly) works really nicely as a base if you spoon it on the rolled our dough and spread it out.

Mozzarella or grated cheese are good as the next layer

Then add whatever you like best, olives, sliced salami/chorizo, chicken the list goes on!

If you cannot find yeast in the shops, I found this recipe online which you could try:

https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/no-yeast-pizza-dough

Alternatively, big supermarkets like Tesco and Asda will sell ready made pizza dough if you are really stuck.

Friday’s Challenge

Today is our final tasks around the stories of What The Ladybird Heard and What The Ladybird Heard NEXT. We hope you have enjoyed them. These games are about instantly recognising numbers rather than counting – this is called subitising.

Subitising is taught in Primary 1 and I’m sure the boys and girls who are going to school in August will enjoy trying this.

Friday What-the-ladybird-heard

You can also try other dice games over the weekend to practice this. If you have a printer at home you can try and use these, but if not don’t worry you can make your own!

Dice with Spots

Dice with Numerals

Enjoy, and keep the wonderful pictures coming! You can tweet us @RMPSnursery or email admin@royalmile.edin.sch.uk and can reply to this post with just a ‘hello’ to let us know that you have seen it!

Have a lovely weekend,

Mrs Peoples and the Early Years Team 🙂

Proud teacher!

I may not be there to hi-5 you all but WOW! I have seen so many 100% scores on Education City. I am SO impressed and proud of you all!

Shout out to ⭐ Jack⭐ for sending in this brilliant Les Colores Spanish writing. ¡Muy bien! Jack has also been busy practising his tricky words on the penalty shoot-out tricky words game and got all of them right! Well done!

One of this week’s tasks was to discuss what a good friend says, does or thinks.

⭐ Dhruv ⭐ talked to his mum about his friend Neki, writing that he is ‘kind, cracks jokes and makes me laugh’. What a lovely way to end the week! Thank you for sending in this super photo.

Remember, house points have re-started!

I will be awarding them virtually and keeping a tally here, so don’t be shy about sending your work in.

The more I see the more points you might get!

NEXT WEEK – I have a slightly different task for your next week and it won’t be posted until Tuesday. BUT here are some super fun tasks from your Spanish teacher, Mrs Speedie, which can be completed on Monday if you so wish 👍
