Primary 2 -Week in Review

Welcome back to our Week in Review for Primary 2! Please bear with us while we work to share more of our work through photos again.

We have been exploring the ‘oi‘ sound pattern this week as part of our phonics and spelling work. This game is something you can use to compare and practise the ‘oi‘ and ‘oy‘ sounds pattern.

We have been working on our addition and subtraction skills this week, moving to focus more on subtraction and even looking at words used to describe subtraction. We have enjoyed playing some of the games from our assigned homework on Education City.

In our topic, Living Things, we started looking at life cycles and worked to show a life cycle including labels of the stages shown. We watched this video about animal life cycles and we looked at the life cycles of frogs and butterflies in more detail. You can find these below:

We have also started to look at animal habitats this week, thinking about different environments animals might live in as well as what sort of creatures might live in these places. We looked at several types of habitats but we will be moving onto focusing on some of these habitats that are near or around us such as urban, woodland or pond habitats.

A big well done and congratulations to our

Altay

for being a Confident Individual and Successful Learner in his efforts to speak up and contribute more in and out of class as well as his efforts in his literacy and numeracy this week!

Welcome to our Health Week!

We had a lot of activities on this week, including a visit to the Crags Centre to try shinty, Yoga, some art activities and even a visitor sharing some information and skills about triathalons. Please bear with us as we will upload photos of some of what we have been up to this week later.

In our numeracy work this week, we continue to work on some addition and subtraction skills this week. Primary 2 enjoyed choosing their level of difficulty on this game.

In literacy, we have been looking at the ‘ow’ sound (as in ‘brown’) and we enjoyed figuring out the spelling in this anagram game as well as this spelling game on galactic phonics. We continue to work through our Read, Write, Inc. programme and have been working hard on our writing skills, including correcting errors in sentences and build up our own.

Primary 2 really enjoyed this telling of this story – enjoy:

Primary 2 – Week in Review 25th April – 6th May

Welcome to this week’s Week in Review where we will be looking back across this week’s short week and last week’s full week.

We got to visit Holyrood Palace and had a tour of some of the rooms last week. Everyone has some part they really enjoyed when we discussed this after we got back!

We have been working through the ‘ur‘ and ‘er‘ sounds patterns in our phonics work. This ‘ur‘ game selection and this ‘er‘ game were some of the ways we practised these patterns online. We also had a look at this game where we were deciding which sound fit the word out of ‘er,’ ‘ur‘ and ‘ir.

In Maths and Numeracy, we looked at some addition and subtraction work since we came back from our holiday as an intro into our new mental agility topic focus. We focused more on addition and looking at hundred squares again as we move onto some more subtraction in the coming weeks. The linked games may be helpful for practising.

We have been working on some paper-craft in our art last week, looking at using layers of paper shapes to create some animals. We used different tools to help us create the shapes which we cut out as well as thinking about where we would put our chosen shapes and what colours we needed for our chosen animals.

Last but not least, a big well done and congratulations to our

Eyad

for being a Confident Individual in applying himself to his learning, asking questions about what he is learning and contributing his ideas in discussions.
