P5 Breaking News and Home Learning w/b 20th February

I hope that you all have had a good rest on the February Week ready to return to a busy and exciting second half of term 2. We will be focusing on our Social Enterprise Project, The Royal Mile Planters, by producing our Business Plan and moving the learning to outdoors to begin to sort the areas for our vegetable production. In Maths we will be looking at Data Handling and continuing on with various areas of number processing to build our confidence in our mental maths strategies. In Literacy we will be returning to story writing and through our Social Enterprise project we will be having a visit and workshop from Magic Torch Comics.

In music we will be visited by the Youth Music Initiative who will be teaching us the Ukulele on a Monday morning and from next week we will have a block of swimming at Abbeyhill Primary on Monday afternoon.

Before the holidays we had done a lot of work on non fiction reading and had looked at Biographies from this Primary 5 created timelines about Neil Armstrong and his life and walk on the moon. We also wrote poems based on the theme of the Galaxy.

Home Learning this week is attached and will be sent out in the Home Learning bags on Monday to be returned on Friday for discussion and self marking. I would like to thank you all for the great response we have had in Primary 5 for the return of home learning and the talk about the sharing you have been doing at home. Thank you.

P5 News and Home Learning

What a great week for Primary 5!

They enjoyed the Scots Week and worked with Mr Humphreys to produce a fantastic a capella Donald Where’s your Troosers! at the Scots Week Showcase and in assembly. Watch out for pictures on the Scots Week blog that will be released shortly.

Primary 5 also had a visit, this week, from Social Enterprise Academy and Scottish Government to take a look at how our Social Enterprise Project, The Royal Mile Planters is getting on. Our visitors were very impressed by the knowledge the children had of their project and how welcoming they were. The class had a board meeting and started to discuss, with the direction of their appointed managers for this term, Lorina and Aron what they required for resourcing the project and the timeline that was needed to meet this.

Home Learning should be back on Friday and once again it is maths and literacy which is a poem with comprehension questions. It is great to see the class giving their home learning a real go and self marking it on its return.
