This week in P5

P5 will be visiting Central Library on Wednesday 4th March, 2:00pm-2:45pm. We would love it if you were able to join us. Feel free to meet us there or meet us at the West door of school at 1:40pm. Some of us will be collecting our new library cards and we look forward to sharing some stories while we are there.

We have also visited the Book Box this week. We have been enjoying our new borrowed books during E.R.I.C. time. We have exciting plans to pass on the book to someone new on World Book Day on Thursday.

This week we have a reading based homework challenge. Return on Friday for the chance to win a prize. Good Luck!

Happy World Book Day 2020

We all celebrated World Book Day together on Thursday 5th March 2020.

We borrowed books from the Book Box.

We wrapped up our books so they couldn’t be judged by their cover and wrote a recommendation on the front so someone else could enjoy them.

The whole school participated in a book swap. We read the recommendations on the cover to help us decide on our new reading book.

We had an assembly with Mrs Jessop about the importance of bedtime stories. Then each of us had an exciting visit from a teacher in the school who read a bedtime story to us. We even had some delicious hot chocolate!

We are also all visiting Central Library Children’s library on George IV Bridge with our class. Some of us have been this week and some of us have visits planned over the next couple of weeks. We will be receiving our new library cards and taking part in an exciting session with the librarian.

P.S.

If you took part in our homework reading challenge you can still hand it to your teacher for your chance to win a prize.

Remember that you can donate any books that you are finished with to our school Book Box.

P5 Queen’s Gallery Trip

On Monday we visited the Queen’s Gallery. We went to see the Leonardo Da Vinci Collection. We learned about how useful his art was at the time for developments in science, medical exploration and even learned about how his drawings helped in battles! Please ask us to share what we learned about this.

We found out that some of his pictures were invisible and are only visible under ultraviolet light.

We got to draw our own horse in his style. He was very good at drawing horses. We have added a twist to our pictures that you can only see if you use a UV light. We will be bringing them home this week so we can show you.

We are looking forward to working in partnership with the Queen’s Gallery again in March.

P5 Scottish Morning

Thank you to everyone who came along to share our learning experience for Burns day. We took part in a range of different literacy activities.

We enjoyed writing poems to Scottish animals, learning new Scots tongue and annotating Broons cartoons.

P5 Topic

We have started our new topic. We will be learning all about Africa. We had a chat about what we already know and we have been thinking about what we would like to find out. Here are some questions we would like answered this term:

  • How many countries are in Africa? Alexa
  • What is the population of Africa? Kayla
  • Why is it so hot in Africa? Stephen
  • What animals live there? Are they different to here? Stephen
  • Are any of the animals dangerous? Amie
  • What sorts of foods are popular in Africa? Miron
  • What minerals are in Africa? Where are the diamond mines? Miron
  • How long is the Nile? Rachele
  • Can you swim in the Nile? Iona
  • Is Christmas celebrated in Africa? Miron

We will be investigating and finding answers to these questions this term. We look forward to sharing our learning with you.
