Primary 5 Home Learning Week Commencing 10/6/24

Spelling

This week in spelling we are focusing on words which follow the double the final letter and add ed spelling rule. For example if we use ship as the root word you would add another p and ed to turn it into shipped.

Please write the root word and then the form with the ‘ed’ suffix added.

Practise writing the words using look, say, cover, write, check. Tick the ones you got correct and have another go at the ones you did not get correct.

Maths and Numeracy

In maths and numeracy we are continuing our work on measure, focusing on measures of length or distance, weight or capacity. For home learning this week I would like you to write down as many different units of measurement you can remember for distance/length, capacity and weight. You could challenge yourself to also include the abbreviations for the units and sort between imperial and metric.

i.e.

Capacity

litres (l)- metric

pints (pt)- imperial

Challenge task

Choose five of your measurements and write the conversation between metric and imperial.

i.e.

1 pint= 568ml.

Learning Across the Curriculum

In class we have been learning about Islam and creating information presentations to share what we have found.

Please choose another world religion and write five facts you have found about it. You could use the examples below as a starting point.

How many people in the world are followers of the religion?

What are the key beliefs?

What traditions do followers of the religion have?

Maths and Numeracy

In maths and numeracy this week we are learning about measure. For home learning this week, please use equipment at home to measure five items in the house. You could measure either their length, weight or capacity. Children should be coming be coming home with a tape measure if they do not have one at home.

Sports Day

This week, pupils have been filling in a questionnaire to share their thoughts about sports day.
Pupils were invited to suggest new activities and share feedback.
Some pupils were concerned that only ‘sporty people’ win. Remember – staff also award points and certificates for effort, resilience and team spirit!

Pupils also rated each activity from 1-5.

Home Learning Week Commencing 13/5/24

Spelling

This week in spelling we are looking at the ‘ies’ ending. The rule is if a word ends in y then you take the y off and add on the ‘ies’ ending. For example:

apply- applies

cry- cries

spy- spies

Core words

lies, relies, tries, hurries, tides, fries

Mild words

denies, carries, worries, replies

Hot words

qualifies, scurries, supplies, bullies

Maths and Numeracy

This week in maths we have been learning about information handling, specifically tally marks, frequency and grouped frequency tables.

For home learning I would like you to choose one of the following questions to answer, conduct a survey and present the data in either a frequency or grouped frequency table. If you would like to challenge yourself, you can also present the data as a chart or a graph.

  1. Types of food you can find at home (fruits and vegetables, tins and cans, meat, packets)
  2. Times people say the following words in a TV show. (now, hello, surely, exhausted, goodbye, love)
  3. How many different genres of Films/TV shows you can find in one day’s TV or on a streaming site.

Learning Across the Cirriculum

This term in science we will be learning about the water cycle, water purification and everybody’s right to access safe drinking water.
