P3 News and Home Learning w/b 7th October

It is Maths Week in school and we are taking our learning outside. We will be using our playground to find 2D and 3D shape, time and number. We will be working hard to solve outdoor maths challenges and in writing this week we will be creating a recount of the alternative Fairy Tale The Three Little Wolves and the Bad Pig by Eugene Trivizas.

It was lovely to meet the parents and carers at the Parent Consultations and to share the wonderful work that Primary 3 are doing. I hope that you enjoyed sharing the children’s learning and that you have had an opportunity to share and discuss it at home.

Home Learning this week will be issued on Monday and should be returned before the holiday on Friday. This week Home Learning will be Activity 4 Mental Maths challenge, Weekly Spelling challenge and this week the children will be taking home a book to read for pleasure.

P3 Home Learning and News w/b 30th September

P3 have had a great week writing and editing their poetry about walking with animals and in maths they have continued to look at time and addition. We took part in Climate Week and were able to attend a live broadcast by webinar with Jasper from The Wildlife Centre in the Cairngorms National Park. We saw the wolves, owls and talked about what homes they live in and how they make their homes from the resources they have around them.

This week we are hoping to have our webinar on the Vikings with the Scottish Museum, it had to be changed from last Friday to this Friday. We will be discussing in class Article 8 from the UNCRC which is the Right to have an identity and a name. We have already been talking about where our names have come from, passports and the flags of different countries.

Home Learning will be sent out on Monday and should be returned on Friday. This week our spelling challenge will be to create a word search and I have placed a blank template of a word search in the bags. There will also be Maths challenge Activity 3 and either a book to read for pleasure or your child’s class reader.

P3 News and Home Learning w/b 23rd September

Last week rushed passed and being a short week Friday came quickly. Primary 3 worked hard last week and I must thank all the parents for their support in getting our Home Learning off to a flying start. The feedback from the children is that they enjoyed the work and I can see that from the amount of work that has gone into each piece of Home Learning.

Last week we continued with our sound patterns in spelling and all groups have started to use their spelling in dictation on a Friday. In maths we have moved on to addition and subtraction and we will be focusing this week on the maths vocabulary we use to describe addition and subtraction and applying it to our number work. We have been working on our Hinduism topic in Religious and Moral Education and we will be looking at the story of Sita and Rama to link with our Festival of Light Theme and learning about Diwali.

Another thank you for PE kits and additional shoes for indoors they have been very useful due the weather never being the same each day. Once again we will be painting this week and if you wish to send in an old shirt to protect your child’s clothes please do.

Home Learning will be issued on Monday in the bags and should be returned on Friday. This week there will be either a book to read for pleasure chosen by your child or their class reader, weekly spelling words challenge and the school’s Mental Rainbow Maths Strategies challenge. Please continue to use the Viking Grid that was sent out last week as this will be the other curriculum Home Learning up until October holiday. Please find attached copy of the Spelling and Maths.

P3 Home Learning Tuesday 17th September.

Primary 3 will be bringing home their Home Learning Bags this week. They will be issued to the children on Tuesday 17th September and should be returned on Friday 20th September.

The Home Learning bags will be issued on a Monday and should be returned on the Friday. Each week in the bags, will be that week’s Spelling words and a choice of challenges, please complete one. The spelling words will be the pattern or sound of the week and two high frequency words, this will vary for the groups and some groups may only have high frequency words. The children will know which group’s words they are using but please contact me if they are unsure.

There is a Maths challenge sheet that has been adapted from the school’s Mental Maths Rainbow Challenge sheet and this has three challenges and examples to support your child’s learning, your child should complete one of the challenges.

Also included in the bag will with be a book to read for pleasure or a book that has been read as part of reading group in class.

Our topic for this part of the term is the Vikings and I have included a grid that has home learning activities that the children can undertake over the next few weeks, up until the October week holiday.

I have also included in the bag a Home Learning jotter that the children can record their learning in. On Friday when the bags are returned, the class will discuss and check their Home Learning for anything that they have found to be challenging. I have also attached copies of the Spelling, Maths and Viking Topic Grid.

It has been a great start to the Term and we are already four weeks in. The class have been to Holyrood Park to visit the Archaeological dig site and have been to the Children’s library to look at and borrow books on their Viking topic.

I have attached the overview for this term, up until Christmas, to give you a flavour of what is happening in our learning in our classroom. Home Learning will start on Tuesday 17th September and will be sent home to be returned on Friday 20th September. Home Learning bags will be sent home on Monday and should be returned to school on a Friday and the challenges will also be posted on the P3 blog. The Home Learning will consist of a Spelling Challenge with the weekly spelling words, Maths Challenge from our Mental Maths Rainbow Strategies and a reading book. There will also be a Topic Grid for our topic and other curriculum, a challenge can be done each week as Home Learning up to the October Week.

Thank you to every one who has provided a PE kit and change of shoes. I would be grateful if you could provide a PE kit that stays in school – PE is on a Monday and Friday. Please remember that no football tops are allowed. The class has also been painting and I am happy to have you send in an old shirt as a painting overall to protect the clothes. Please remember to name all the clothes coming into school.
