P3 Homework 22nd Feb 2022

Hello everyone! Yesterday P3 brought home the “Homework Bag” with the new activities for this week. Please remember:

* The Reading Books should be brought to school everyday. On the following Monday, the books will stay at school so we can change them by new ones for Tuesday.
* I would like them to bring their completed homework back to school before or on the following Monday, so I can check it and give them a feedback.

**Please try to remind them to bring their homework bags before Tuesday so they can get the new pack home. Thanks!

This week there are two pieces of paper homework, and numeracy online practices:
Reading – new book, and activities to practice vocabulary and/or develop their comprehension skills.
Spelling – before the break we were working with the sounds “or” and “air”. They can exercise their spelling and handwriting by completing the activities sent home, and also by choosing and completing three (or more) activities from the Spelling Activities sheet (complete at the back of the sheet or another paper).
Numeracy – they can practice telling the time to the hour (o’clock) and half hour (half past) with this game. Scroll down, click on the bear, and have fun! They can exercise their ordering and number sequencing skills by playing this game too. Click on “Play Game”, choose the mode and level, and have fun!

If you have any questions, or need an electronic copy of this week’s homework, please do not hesitate to contact me through the comments or by writing to the school email and they will forward it to me.

Have a great week!

Outdoor Learning

P3 had an excellent OL session today. We explored around Arthur’s Seat and went to Dunsapie Loch.

We discovered that part of the Loch was covered in ICE! (BRRRRR!)

We walked a different route on the way back to school and learned more about our local surroundings.

Everyone will sleep well tonight!

P3 Week’s Review (11th Feb 2022)

This week our Pupil of the week is Maryam. She has shown she is a Successful Learner able to learn independently and as part of a group; and a Confident Individual who is achieving success in different areas of activity. Well done! 🙂

Literacy

This week during our RWI lessons, we have revisit the sounds we worked with during this first part of the term, and introduce the sound “air”. We practiced our reading, spelling and writing of words with this sound, and of tricky words too. You can click on the sound to practice at home too!

We have celebrated this week the School Diversity and Equalities Week. We created unique monsters, with different looks and abilities; shared them with our classmates; and discussed what made them different and unique, but also what things they had in common with the other monsters. You can find their lovely work below, they did a fantastic job!

Linked to that, we talked about how each of us are unique, and how rewarding is having people around us that have different interests, skills, physical appearance, personality… We read a story about the theme, and wrote about the differences and similarities between a classmate and themselves.

We also enjoyed a very interesting discussion with Mrs Henry, during which we developed our understanding of the equalities and the stereotype concepts. We had the chance to share our opinions and thoughts about it, and learned about the importance of not stereotyping people because of the way they were born, their gender, where they come from, their family structure, their believes, their abilities, their interests…

Numeracy

Following the lessons taught during the previous weeks, we have revisited the analogue clock, the minutes hand’s function, and the half past concept. We have started learning about digital clocks, and how they link to what we know about clocks so far.

They can practice telling the time at home, they will love to show you how much they have learned!

During this week, we also practiced number and shapes sequences. They created their own sequencing patterns with shapes and letters, and worked hard to find out the rule followed on different number sequences (counting in 2s, 3s, 4s and 5s, forwards and backwards). Great job!

Topic

During this week we focused our Topic lesson on the Ring of Fire, an area of the Pacific Ocean which is home to around 75% of the world’s volcanoes. We learned about volcanoes: how they are formed, the different parts, the different types, how they erupt… We watched videos about how volcanoes erupt on land and underwater, and we created our own volcanoes too! They had an amazing time getting them ready and watching them “erupt” in the playground (you can find some pictures below).

P.E. and Outdoor Learning

Our P.E. lessons will be on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays for the rest of the school year. There will also be Outdoor Learning on alternative Fridays.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me through the comments or by writing to the school email and they will forward it to me.

Enjoy your holidays!

I have set some activities on Education City so they can practice their Spelling using the sounds we have been working with during this first part of the term, including the last sound introduced (“air”), and some tricky words.

They can keep practicing their Addition and Subtraction skills by playing to the allocated games on Education City too. Have fun! 🙂
