Primary 2 – Week in Review

Welcome to another Week in Review for Primary 2! Languages Week work has kept us busy and some of this you’ll see more of in the coming weeks. Here’s a Spanish version of Baby Shark to get us started!

In our Time work we have enjoyed playing some of the games on Education City as we focus on telling the time to half past on an analogue clock using words. We have made our own paper plate clocks as we prepare to look at quarter past next and we also spend some thought on estimating time and how many times we can do an action like hopping in one minute. We had some really good guesses for our estimating!

In literacy we worked on the ‘ou‘ and ‘oy‘ sounds this week. Here and here are some games for ‘ou‘ and ‘oy‘ to practise if you wish. We read The Four Singers as a new fairy tale this week and acted out part of the story using our voices, bodies and facial expressions! Feel free to read over this on Active Learn.

In a very busy Languages Week we looked at the story and traditions around the Lunar New Year and how it is the year of the tiger this time! We looked at different stories in other languages such as the The Very Hungry Caterpillar in Spanish and we got to hear a story in Scots at the Children’s Library this week. We really enjoyed looking at a range of their bilingual books too.

As we come to the end of this week’s review, a big congratulations for…

Altay

for being a Successful Learner and his efforts to complete his work, follow instructions and for his fantastic working in literacy.

Lastly, Primary 2 enjoyed hearing this story and we remembered some of the other stories in this series:

Have yourselves a lovely weekend, remember to have fun and we look forward to seeing you next week!

Primary 2 Week in Review – 28th January

In maths we continue to focus on reading the time using words on an analogue clock to the hour and half past the hour. Across this week we have been working on our calendars of this year in class which has linked with our Spanish work where we have been looking at the months of the year.

In our literacy, we worked on the ‘air‘ and ‘ir‘ sounds patterns this week. Linked here and here are some games to practise the ‘air‘ pattern and here and here are some games to practise the ‘ir‘ pattern if you wish! We also had a look at some Scots words this week as we thought about Burns Night and had a go at a version of ‘Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes‘ in Scots!

We continue to look at fairy tales in Wordsmith and you can find a copy of Mary and the Twelve Months to read online in your ActiveLearn accounts. We had a think about the character of each month and the sort of colours we could use to show this based on the events and plants or fruits that might grow at their time.

In our Space work we start to look at Earth, why it is considered the ‘Goldilocks‘ planet and continue to work on our art of the solar system. We explored using marble inks in our art this week and are waiting on these to dry to use them in our art.

And last but not least…

A big well done and congratulations to our

Rayan

for being a Confident Individual in being resilient, trying to make sensible choices and for his efforts to solve problems.

Remember to have fun this weekend and we look forward to sharing some of our Languages Week work with you next time!

Primary 2 – Week in Review and Termly Descriptor

Please find included in this week’s review a copy of our Termly Descriptor for this term.

This week we have been looking at doubling and halving in our numeracy and we started to look at Time too and to think about what we already know about ‘time’ in general, including time words. We had a go at doubling our numbers to twenty on Hit the Button. We enjoyed this video below too!

In literacy we focused on the ‘ar’ and ‘or’ sounds this week alongside our reading and writing work. We looked at the beginning, middle and end of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs as we continue to explore fairy tales.

In P.E. we went outside for games in Holyrood Park and Mr Madine worked with us on Tuesday! We looked at the sun this week as part of our Space topic work. We also began to create the solar system using a variety of art techniques and from having a look at images from space for our backgrounds.

Finally, a big well done and congratulations to our

Theodora

for being an Effective Contributor in her contributions to class discussions and her teamwork with others as well as her efforts to seek solutions to a variety of problems.

We hope you have a lovely weekend and look forward to seeing you next week. Don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions about the Termly Descriptor!
