SLT Top Tip for June

Welcome to our website

Welcome back to Fantastic Friday where we showcase the amazing work and play done in the nursery each week. It has been another busy week at the nursery, continuing to find out about people who help us, transitioning to school and having Sports Day!
In the story corner we have been continuing the camping role play. The children made a paper machΓ© fire to put the tea lights In and added even more blankets to make it extra cosy. In the house corner, the children have been roleplaying as teachers, setting writing tasks for their friend and pretending to be at work/pupils.
In snack, the children have been very good at the fire engine and ambulance puzzles, using the photos as references when they get stuck. The children chose to make red and purple play dough this week and have been experimenting with different recipes to try and make slime.
In art, we have been making bonfire handprint pictures, lollipop crossing sticks and fire collages. We have a new easel in the garden for painting and drawing with whiteboards pens. We also set some more of our butterflies free.
We finished the week off with a very successful sports day (despite the iffy weather!). We started off with a warm up, talking about why it is important to do so before breaking into our groups. The children have been practising the races and waiting their turn for a while and it definitely showed – everyone did so well! We would like to thank all the grown ups who came along to watch and support us, it is very much appreciated and we hope you had fun.Β
We hope you enjoy your weekend and we look forward to seeing you all on Monday! Please continue to post your lovely photos of all the fun you have at home on the Learning Journals!

Welcome back to Fantastic Friday where we showcase the amazing work and play done in the nursery each week. This week we continued to discuss people who help us. In the art corner we have been identifying and making our own road signs. We have also been experimenting in the water tray with what materials and objects can float; creating our own boats and rafts and examining what makes them sink and what keeps them afloat.
In the puzzle area we have been playing a fun uniform matching game. We are still enjoying the small world police station and roleplaying different scenarios in which the police can help us. In the construction area we have been transporting the police cars to create ramps and police stations and houses.
We have been very excited to see some of our cocoons have hatched and become butterflies which we released into the garden! We have been talking a lot about the life cycle of butterflies and have enjoyed seeing it in real life.
In the story corner there was lots of talk about camping so we created a campsite with a cosy tent and a small “campfire”. We used sticks and cotton wool to “toast marshmallows” on the “fire”.
To support our pre-schoolers who are moving up to Primary 1 after the summer, we have set up a classroom in the house corner, we have enjoyed dressing up in school uniforms and role-playing as teachers and pupils. We have also been reading lots of books about going to school.
We are very excited about our upcoming sports day and have been practicing all the races. We demonstrated some amazing athletic skills and brilliant team work! We look forward to joining our families at Dunbar’s close for our sports day on Thursday 26th June!

Welcome back to Fantastic Friday, where we showcase the amazing work and play done in the nursery each week. This week in nursery, we are continuing with our people who help us theme. Over the week, we have been discussing who we can go to for help and what each emergency service does.
The children have been taking part in lots of art activities such as designing and researching different fire engines, police cars and ambulances and discussing what should be in our first aid bags/boxes.
The children have been enjoying our makeshift dentist, we have been discussing why we brush our teeth, wash when to brush them, who helps us look after them and what tools they use. We have our Dental Nurse visiting on Monday and to support us in this topic. We also have a few other people who help us coming to visit the playroom in the next few weeks!
Some of the children went to Dunbar’s close to practice the sports day races and look at the beautiful flowers. Some children also walked all the way through Prince’s Street gardens; looking at the different shops, admiring the statues, looking at the trains, rolling down the hill and had so much fun playing in the park.
Today we will be going to support the school children at their sports day! We hope you enjoy your weekend and look forward to seeing you all on Monday! Please post pictures on the learning journals of all the fun you get up to!
