P5 Online Safety

We have been learning about the importance of staying safe online. We have had the chance to explore what could go wrong and how to avoid this so that we continue to have positive experiences when using ICT. Some pupils have started creating ‘Books’ on their ipads to be shared with other children in the school to help create awareness of dos and don’ts when online. There is an example below.

Below is a link to a useful website with age appropriate advice for pupils and advice for parents and carers regarding online safety:

Fruitmarket pop-up at Waverley Mall

Royal Mile continues to work in partnership with the Fruitmarket Art Gallery and Garcia Foundation. Last week, the Fruitmarket welcomed a group of P5, 6 and 7 pupils to a workshop to help design their new Gallery space. They are currently renovating this and operated the workshop from a space within Waverley Mall. We had the opportunity to use various craft materials to help us with our designs. We then used ICT to create short animations to bring our ideas to life. It was thoroughly enjoyed by all.

The Fruitmarket will be running free drop-in Sunday workshops in this space over the coming weeks. Pupils are more than welcome to attend. Information below:

Christmas Markets and Writing Lesson

To support our writing this week, P5 and P6 took a walk through the Princes Street Gardens Christmas markets on Monday afternoon.

We have been working on developing a setting description. We are aiming to include ambitious vocabulary and senses into our writing so we paid specific attention to what we could see, hear, taste, smell and feel while we were there.
