P3 Home Learning w/b 5th February

Our focus this month will be being Positive and throughout February we will be focusing in class and around school on positive behaviour to each other and in the playground. We will be starting Explanation writing in P3, this week, looking to write about how sound travels and we will be linking this to our topic about the Scottish Inventor of the telephone, Alexander Graham Bell. In maths we continue to look at money and how we use it and recognise it. In number we will be focusing on number before and after, forward and backwards and counting in multiplies ie 2s, 3s, 5s and 10s.

Ms Sunthonlap from Edinburgh University will be joining the class on Tuesday and Wednesday this week and then after the February week fulltime until the Easter Holidays. Please remember that PE is on Tuesday and Thursday and it would be very helpful if the children had shoes suitable for PE and a change of clothes.

Home Learning will be sent home on Monday to be returned in the Home Learning bag on Friday. In the bag there will be a book to read for pleasure, if the reading book has been returned, a maths challenge sheet and spelling challenge sheet. Please continue to use the Scottish Inventors and Writer grid for other curriculum homework. Please have a lovely February holiday when it comes and there will be no home learning in P3 issued the first week back from the February break. Regards Mrs Leslie.

P3 News and Home Learning w/b 15th January 2024

Welcome back and I hope that everyone had a lovely break and a good New Year. We are looking forward to a busy term and next week we will be sending out the Primary 3 Overview for Term 2 so that you will be able to share the learning with your child.

Last week focused on settling back into class and we reviewed our Class Charter and our focus for this term will be listening and following instructions. We also looked at 3D shape and this will continue with Ms Brunner on Monday in Maths and I will be focusing on dividing equally and understanding the language of division. Please continue to practice your times tables at home as this supports the calculations in division. We will be focusing on the red band of our Mental Math Strategies Rainbow, counting forwards and backwards. This will form part of the homework this term.

In literacy we were writing our New Year Resolutions and goals for this term. We produced a poster using the One Word Resolution idea to remind us what we had decided was our New Year Resolution. Some of Primary 3 have decided to be ACTIVE, some KIND, some COMPASSIONATE and some wanted to EXPLORE. As a class we will try over the term to meet these targets in the classroom, in the playground and in our community. The class will also be looking at their individual personal achievements outside of school and how they can use these skills to help and support their learning and others.

In reading we will be studying non fiction text and how we can use them in our topic and how we can recognise and verify true and false information that we have sourced. We will still continue to send home a book to read for pleasure from the class library or Book Box. Please remember to return the book or we will not send a new book home for your child to read.

Home Learning this week will be sent out on Monday and should be returned in the Home Learning bags on Friday for discussion, self correction and feedback. In the bag will be a book to read for pleasure, spelling challenge sheet and Mental Maths Strategies sheet. We have not started our project on Scottish Inventors and Writers this week but I will send a challenge sheet home once topic is started. PE will be taking place Tuesday and Thursday this week and I would be grateful if you could provide a change of clothes and footwear to take part in PE. Thank you for your support.
