P3 Term Over View

It has been a great start to the Term and we are already four weeks in. The class have been to Holyrood Park to visit the Archaeological dig site and have been to the Children’s library to look at and borrow books on their Viking topic.

I have attached the overview for this term, up until Christmas, to give you a flavour of what is happening in our learning in our classroom. Home Learning will start on Tuesday 17th September and will be sent home to be returned on Friday 20th September. Home Learning bags will be sent home on Monday and should be returned to school on a Friday and the challenges will also be posted on the P3 blog. The Home Learning will consist of a Spelling Challenge with the weekly spelling words, Maths Challenge from our Mental Maths Rainbow Strategies and a reading book. There will also be a Topic Grid for our topic and other curriculum, a challenge can be done each week as Home Learning up to the October Week.

Thank you to every one who has provided a PE kit and change of shoes. I would be grateful if you could provide a PE kit that stays in school – PE is on a Monday and Friday. Please remember that no football tops are allowed. The class has also been painting and I am happy to have you send in an old shirt as a painting overall to protect the clothes. Please remember to name all the clothes coming into school.

P3 News and Home Learning w/b 17th June

This will be the last week of Home Learning before the Summer holidays. This week we are going to send our work home and start to think about moving to our next class in August, with this in mind Home Learning will be sent out on Monday and I would be very grateful if it could be returned on Thursday as we will be very busy with Sports Day on Friday.

Last week was really busy and the children enjoyed their visits to Crags Centre for Basketball and Canongate Youth for a taster session. I hope that the children will be able to attend some of the clubs that were shown to them at the taster sessions. We were outside between showers this week and we took both our maths and literacy out to the playground which was great fun. I am hoping that we will be able to do this again this week. We will also have our last visit this session from our Canongate Reading Partners who have been supportive every Tuesday by coming to read with members of the class. Last week we also had fruit and vegetable tasting to link to our Health Week and we all had a try of fruit and vegetables that we may have not tried before. Most of the class enjoyed the mango, strawberries and raspberries and some of the class even tried the limes and the different lettuce. We discussed our five a day and looked at where the different fruit and vegetable had come from.

We have finished our Arcimboldo self portraits and I have attached a few pictures to let you see how imaginative the P3 class have been about what objects, fruit and vegetables they see themselves as. I am hoping to send the picture home this week.

Home Learning this week will be a Spelling Challenge sheet and Maths Challenge Sheet, there will be no book sent home this week.

P3 News and Home Learning w/b 10th June

This week is Health Week in school and we will be taking our learning outside. We have visits to the Crags Centre for a Basketball Session and a visit to Canongate Youth for a taster session. We will be out side in the playground trying Boccia and lots of outdoor learning. On Friday we have Sports Day and we will practicing our skills this week in preparation. We are in for a fun week and we will be looking at Healthy options in our lifestyle, exercise and eating.

Last week we had a visit from our farmer and he answered lots of questions about being a farmer and life on a farm. The class had lots of really interesting questions about all sorts of different farming and Alastair was very impressed with the level of knowledge and questions he was being asked.

Home Learning this week will be issued on Monday and should be returned on Friday. In the Home Learning bags will be a Spelling Challenge sheet, Maths Challenge sheet and a book to read for pleasure.

P3 News and Home Learning

We are looking forward to meeting our visiting farmer on Monday and we have lots of questions to ask about life on a farm and what farms produce. This week will be focusing on weight in non number and will continue to look at number processes in particular looking at our subtraction strategies. We will also be taking our learning outside as we had done last week when we used hopscotch to count in tens and threes. We also practiced our spelling patterns and worked together to create lots of words with our sounds.

Primary 3 will be trying their hand at printing with vegetables in art this week and in PE we will continue to practice our skills for Sports Day.

Home Learning will be issued on Monday and should be returned on Friday, this week we will have a spelling challenge sheet, a book to read for pleasure and a maths challenge sheet from our Rainbow Maths Strategies. I would be grateful if all the children could have a water bottle which only has water not juice as the classroom is getting hot and spilt juice is sticky. Thank you for your support in this matter.

P3 News and Home Learning

This week is a busy week in Primary 3, however we start by wishing Mrs Henry all the best in her new school and I know that all the class and the whole school will miss her. We will be having a special Assembly for Mrs Henry on Monday morning and we hope to wish her all the best and say a huge thank you.

Last week we had our last National Youth Choir of Scotland session and the teacher said that she had been very impressed with Primary 3’s singing and the warm welcome they had extended to her on every visit.

This week Ms Brunner has been busy getting us ready for our new focus on our Mental Agility Rainbow and we have now moved to the green strand, ordering and sequencing. You can find the challenge sheets for practice attached to our P3 Blog. In Literacy we are starting to look at speech marks and we hope to make further progress on our writing. In Farm to Fork we are preparing for our visit next week by the farmer from Royal Highland Educational Trust and we are going to look at the seasons in Arable farming.

Home Learning will be issued on Monday and should be returned on Friday and in the bags will be a Maths challenge sheet, Spelling challenge sheet and a book to read for pleasure.
