P3/4 Home Learning and News

Last week was very busy but short, due to returning on Tuesday we will be only issuing reading for pleasure books from the class library as we are still using our current reading books in class.

It is Maths Week in the school and around Scotland and you may wish to take part in the challenges that are on Sumdog or create your own Maths challenges and tell us about them. You can also find loads of information on the Scottish Maths website https://mathsweek.scot/ .

Thank you for returning the completed Home Learning. This week the Home Learning bags will be sent out on Monday to be returned on Friday. The Rainbow Progression Maths sheets, Other Curriculum Activity Grid and a book to read for pleasure will be in the bags. A new Spelling challenge sheet will be sent out and a challenge will be placed on Sumdog.

P3/4 Home Learning and News

I hope that you all had a restful September Weekend. Today P3/4 were issued with their home learning bags. I have enclosed a letter explaining when the Home Learning bag should be retuned to school and what will be issued as Home Learning in P3/4.

The Home Learning bags will be issued on a Monday and should be returned on Friday with any completed work. Please complete as much as you can as you and your children have very busy lives. Home Learning is for sharing your child’s learning and is quality time that you should spend with your child so they can explain to you what they have learned.

In the bag you will find paper copies of maths, literacy and other curriculum tasks and I will place the PDFs of any work on the blog to be available from the Monday. I have also enclosed a pencil and scrap paper to support your child’s home learning.

Maths – up until the October Week your child should attempt challenges from the Royal Mile Mental Agility Progression Rainbow. I have placed both Activity Sheet 3 and 4 in the bag and your child should date and initial the challenge they have attempted.

Sumdog – included is Sumdog password and can be used in conjunction with home learning. I will attach a task each week but this is an extra.

Reading – reading books from the previous week will be sent home. Please return them in the bags on Friday with the other home learning. Children who have not finished their book during the week and are reading the book over more than one week will have a book to read for pleasure from the class library or Book Box.

Spelling – a copy of Spelling Words linked to our Sound of the Week that is being learnt in class will be sent home with suggested challenges. This will be changed weekly.

Other Curriculum – a topic challenge grid on the Ancient Egyptians that can be completed up to the October Week.

P3 Home Learning and News w/b 25th November 2024

It was lovely to see parents for the Read Write Count Book Bag launch on Friday and for the class to be able to undertake our active challenge of designing an adapted animal to beat the cheetah in the book ‘There’s Nothing Faster Than A Cheetah’ by Tom Nicoll. I have attached the link to the website for more activities that you can try at home to share and encourage reading. https://www.scottishbooktrust.com/articles/read-write-count-at-home

It is Road Safety Week and we will be looking at keeping ourself safe when out and about on these dark days. We will be making posters in writing and we will be continuing to focus on multiplication and division in maths.

Home Learning this week will be issued on Monday and should be returned on Friday. Due to the busy week we had last week we will be sending our reading books home next week but in the Home Learning bags will be a book to read for pleasure and the children will have their Read Write Count bags with their new books. There will be a mental Maths challenge based on our Rainbow Mental Math Strategies and our weekly spelling word challenge. Please continue with the other curriculum challenge grid that will cover the next three weeks.
