Nursery Blog

Fantastic Friday.

We have had a very busy first week back in the nursery. Some of the children were showing an interest in sealife, so we have been learning about different creatures that live under the sea. We have read a variety of sea themed books and looked up videos to find information on sharks, whales, dolphins and more!

In the art area, we have made our own fish designs, printing and playing with sea creatures and shells in the water tray.
The children have also been engaging in roleplay, dressing up as pirates and building boats in the construction.
For snack, the children asked to make biscuits and pasta, so we have been busy cooking, baking and practicing washing the dishes after. We have also been experimenting while making our snow dough, using different types of conditioner to see what colours and scents we can create. The children have also been doing good turn taking while playing board games, such as a pirate memory game and a colour matching game. In the garden, we have been enjoying the bikes and playing red light, green light.
The children have also been enjoying dressing up and dancing. Our favourite songs of the moment being Let it Go and the Floor is Lava. Finally, we would like to welcome our new friends that have joined the nursery this week and who are settling in very well, as a well as our two new Early Years Practitoners, Stephanie and Lucy.

Primary 5 Homework for Thursday, 13th of January

Dear Primary 5 families,

Happy New Year! I hope you all had a wonderful and restful break.

This week the spelling pattern for both groups is: oi/oy. There are 4 spelling tasks on the page, please choose one to complete in the homework jotter.

Ivory Group: There are 10 spelling words to practise, however if your child already knows several, they can choose to practise the three challenge words in place of 3 they already know.

Blue Group: There are 10 spelling words to practise and 3 Common Words. These will change each week.

Numeracy: We have been working out the area and perimeter of regular shapes. If you are struggling with this, please just ask me.

Remember:

Area = the space covered = length x breadth

Perimeter = the distance around the edge = Add all sides together

Area of a triangle = ½ the base x height

Mental Maths: We are finishing our last part of Number Recognition-this week we are all practising recognising money coins and notes. Taking opportunities to use money in small transactions or handling coins and notes at home would be really helpful to reinforce this.

If anything is not clear or there are any concerns, please do let me know.

I hope you all have a lovely week.

Kind regards,

Mrs Harrison

P1 – Friday 7th January

Welcome back!

It has been lovely having Primary 1 back, even just for these two short days. I hope everyone had a lovely holiday and that you are excited as I am for the year ahead!

At the end of every term we send the indoor shoes home so you can check they fit before they return to school. Indoor shoes help keep our classroom clean, especially from grit and mud during winter! Please remember to bring yours on Monday, if not already done so.

Learning Heroes

We met the 6 Learning Heroes this week. They help us to achieve our targets and give us a boost when we are doing our tasks. We are using them to help us achieve our New Years Resolutions.

Signalong

This year, Languages Week Scotland will run from 31 January – 4 February 2022. The theme is “The ‘Rights’ Approach – incorporating learners’ rights within Scotland’s languages landscape”.

In Primary 1 we learn English, phrases in Scots and Spanish and how to say hello in all of our home languages. We also use some Signalong. This helps us to be more inclusive.

In celebration of LWS, we will be learning the song below.

We would also love for you to teach us songs in your home language. Please get in touch if you would like to share.

Mental Arithmetic Focus

The whole school is working our way around this Mental Arithmetic Rainbow.

Before Christmas, our focus was the yellow band, Number Recognition.

Until the February half term, our new focus will be on the green sequencing and ordering numbers section.
