October’s Learning in Primary 7

Primary 7 have had a fantastic month this October!

Curriculum areas:

In literacy, we have been developing our imaginative writing, using figurative language to add description. Primary 7 wrote fantastic warning stories using a range of techniques such as similes, metaphors, personification and pathetic fallacy. This term, we have started learning to identify persuasive writing techniques.

In Numeracy, we have been learning to use written methods to add and subtract 6-digit numbers. We have also been practising our mental strategies for adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing. We have been learning to multiply and divide by multiples of 10, 100 and 1000.

Primary 7 enjoyed developing their skills in badminton and basketball. We have started learning about the importance of fitness and setting personal goals.

Interdisciplinary Learning:

We have been learning about the key events that took place during World War Two. We have researched about key events and worked in groups to create a radio broadcast, set in the 1940’s. We also learned about VE and VJ day, and worked in groups to plan an end of war party to celebrate. We found 1940’s music, came up with a dress code, created a food list and games to play. We then presented our plans to the rest of the class.

Ethos and life of the school:

We have been extremely lucky to take part in Fringe in a Fortnight. We developed on our drama skills and created a fantastic show about Pirates! We enjoyed performing our show to the school and parents.

Opportunities for Wider Achievement:

We recently visited a Careers Fair at the National Museum, where we got to explore a range of STEM experiences and speak to a range of different people, including scientists and engineers. We had the opportunity to think about a range of skills that are needed for jobs in STEM and begin to shape pathways for our future.

Primary 7 should be super proud of themselves for their achievements and learning this month!

Have a lovely weekend.

Miss Dahl.
